New M11E build crashes

New build includes 9900k with 32g memory-F4-3733C17Q-32GTZ—by GSkill. Tested the memory overnight on my test bench with memtest 6.1 outside windows. No OS installed. 9900k from silicon lottery @ 5.0. No problem on test bench. No errors encountered.*

Transferred motherboard to case today. It boots into the bios with A9 code. It then crashes after about 30 to 60 seconds. Checked all power connections and reseated cooler to make sure there’s not too much pressure. No change. Cleared the CMOS on both bios chips. Everything is at stock, no OC. Still crashes. After crashing once it doesn’t seem to want to boot into the bios at all. I can power everything off and wait 30 minutes and come back, boots into bios for 30 seconds and crashes. Then it doesn’t want to boot now at all. Had enough time to check temperature on the monitor tab in the bios and it’s about 26C. Temperature is not rising.

I have an EVGA 2080ti XC ultra in the second slot, soundblaster Z in slot 1 (x1 slot), and an intel 905p in the last slot.*

Ideas? Thanks.*

Hi Hopper,

Have you tried removing all add-in cards and using integrated graphics?

Try with one memory module installed, too, as well as checking that the stand-off screws are not overtightened.

Removed all unnecessary usb cables. No change. Made sure all motherboard screws were not overnighted. No change. Removed add in cards individually and tested in between. No change. Swapped out video card. No change. Removed all but one memory module. No change.*

Removed motherboard from case. No problem. Everything works as it should on test bench. Running memtest now with no issues. All memory recognized and reapplied OC settings with no problem. I guess the motherboard hates my case?*

It's obvious that you have connections is tack as required to power the board on a test bench...so..that would not change if you were to put board in case...my thought is that you do infact have an extra standoff in that case that is shorting the board...most cases now will have the alignment standoff plus 8 .

Something is grounding out and most likely pulling down your power supply. If you stripped it down to one stick of ram and internal graphics that doesnt leave much. MOBO could be grounding out or PSU could be grounding on case. Had this once and found the wire going to the ON/OFF switch was pinched between the case parts. Try back in case and dont connect up anything but the PSU and only connect MOBO headers, no case lights etc. No USB cables for case, no power button wires nothing but the board one stick of ram and the PSU and use the boards buttons to start of just a pair of wires coming off the header on the MOBO to start it.

I’ll will let you know. The case had a different motherboard in it and was working fine. I will report back in a couple of days. My wife has stuff for me to do today. 😞

I would suspect either cabling or a standoff. If your PSU is modular, look for a loose connection at the back of the PSU. Or an unseated power cable feeding the CPU or mainboard.
