Can't get it to recognise a USB drive. Driver is installed (a Microsoft driver apparently although I installed all drivers from the Asus website) so no idea what's happening.

Do you get any sort of notification or sounds when you insert a drive or tried multiple devices? Also is it enabled in your BIOS?

You can try and right click and update both of those drivers to see if that helps. I am using the latest ASMedia USB 3.1s driverset for both of those entries (1.16.49.1) Looks like your driver is the generic one included with Windows, though that usually doesn't cause any issue.

In order of your asking: no, no, no (drive worked fine in other ports), have to check (didn't touch it in the BIOS).

Where did you find that Asmedia driver? Could you link it pretty please? Not on the Asus website for me. After installing all Asus website drivers there 2 devices left without a driver (PCI host controller and something else I forgot) that Windows update took care off - *shudder*

I use the Win-Raid forums to find the latest updated driver packages for USB/MEI/AHCI etc. drivers. The thread for updated USB 3.0 / 3.1 driver packages from ASMedia is located here:

Awesome. 🙂 That forum is great at helping you keep up to date with the drivers for system components that are either not updated frequently or not provided at all by the motherboard manufacturer.

A side effect of keeping the newest drivers installed is Windows will be less likely to force an update that breaks functionality without warning.

I've disabled Windows update drivers again (every build update enables it again, gosh I despise Microsoft).

I have solved my issue by scanning for hardware changes.
