*Update*: By updating BIOS from 1602 to 1802 I wasn't able to boot anymore at all because of the 'No keyboard connected' message. That's why I had to dig deeper into this. I found out that it's not caused by the USB hub I listed below ('TP-Link UH700') but by one of my monitors (DELL U2518D) usb hubs connected to it. After disconnecting my monitors usb I am able to boot successfully 100% of the time.
The overall problem: When connected over my usb hub, bios gets all weird and does not properly recognize my keyboard.
Workaround: Connect the keyboard directly to the mainboard. (Will still show the ‘no keyboard connected’ message in 1 of 5 boots)
My current setup:
- ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero
- Bios Version 1602
- Intel Core i9-9900K
- TP-Link UH700 7-Port USB 3.0 HUB
- Das Keyboard 4 Professional
- Windows 10

- BIOS cannot find any keyboard, does not allow me to get into setup or type in my windows disk encryption key
- When connecting another keyboard to any usb port on the mainboard, I can get into the BIOS and use it to type in my windows disk encryption key (But when I am inside windows, it doesn’t recognise my usb hub at all, not even connecting and disconnecting helps.)
What happens if I connect the keyboard directly to the mainboard (any port):
- Keyboard can be used in BIOS, bootloader, everywhere
- When booting into windows, the usb hub is correctly recognized and any devices connected to it work flawlessly
I tried all USB settings that are available in my bios version, without success (Legacy USB Support Enabled/Disabled, XHCI Hand-Off Enabled/Disabled).
To me it looks like the BIOS is having issues with keyboards connected over USB 3.0 hubs (maybe only self-powered?). Is there any hope for this issue to get resolved or is there anything I could do?
