M8F PWM control and temp monitoring on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Jones0610

This issue is probably nto specific to the M8F since I've seen numerous problem reports (but no solutions) for various ASUS mobos running Linux.

Here's the basic problem:

frankie@Ubuntu:/etc/sensors.d$ sensors -f
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +82.0°F (crit = +246.2°F)
temp2: +85.6°F (crit = +246.2°F)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +59.0°F (high = +176.0°F, crit = +212.0°F)
Core 0: +55.4°F (high = +176.0°F, crit = +212.0°F)
Core 1: +59.0°F (high = +176.0°F, crit = +212.0°F)
Core 2: +55.4°F (high = +176.0°F, crit = +212.0°F)
Core 3: +57.2°F (high = +176.0°F, crit = +212.0°F)

asus-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
cpu_fan: 0 RPM

Note that the CPU fan reports zero RPM but is indeed turning. There is no entry for the water pump RPM. I believe the core problem may be that there is no config file for the sensor software to read.

frankie@Ubuntu:/etc/sensors.d$ sudo pwmconfig
# pwmconfig revision 6243 (2014-03-20)
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed
frankie@Ubuntu:/etc/sensors.d$

There are quite a few perople using these high end ROG mobos to power their Linux machines..... a little guidance on what sort of config file needs to be added (perhaps in /etc/sensors.d ?) would be helpful.

This machine otherwise runs really dandy with 64 Gb RAM and i7-6700k 4.0 Ghz CPU

Any help would be appreciated!
