ROG front base

Installed this a few weeks ago. Installed drivers that are required except for audio stuff which I'm not using. Works well except that it initially would display the q codes in debug mode and then finally go to normal mode in Windows per the manual, but it doesn't do that anymore. The mode indicator worked correctly for several weeks and showed R5E in the string after the q codes, but now it shows ASUS only. I believe the only change was a bios update. ? Ideas? Thanks.

My Front Base is connected to a Z170 motherboard but if I install V47 firmware on the Front Base I get the model number of the motherboard "M8H" once Windows has finished loading and with V48 firmware I get the word ASUS. Only V48 displays the audio presets for me though.

What's odd is that it originally displayed R5E after q codes cycled during boot. I just looked at the download page and I have v48 firmware with the front base driver and ROG connect driver. I don't see v47 FW at Windows 10 download section. I guess I can live with it, but I would like it to function is it did originally as described in the manual. Thanks for your input.

Firmware V47 is contained within the V1.01.15 driver folder. I've just checked the downloads page and it appears that both versions are only available for the 64bit version of Windows 10.
My understanding is that if using Windows driver version 1.01.15 then V47 firmware needs to be installed on the Front Base and if using driver 1.01.17 then firmware V48 should be installed.

Just checked my version of the driver which is 1.01.17 with FW 48 I suppose. Wonder if a reinstall of the same driver will make any difference??

It won't, tried it multiple times. Dunno when it all changed but it just shows ASUS on the top right section as opposed to the Q-Code it did before. It still cycles through all the Q-codes during boot up but as soon as you log into Windows it just has ASUS written across.

Mine won't even cycle through the q codes now. Guess it needs a new driver or FW.

Here is another post on this Forum that I have been heavily involved in... https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?83628-Maximus-VIII-hero-problem-with-rog-front-base&p=5836...
My problem is different to yours, so the solution I use to fix it probably won't work, but maybe it's worth a try as you have nothing to lose!

The link above will take you to the post in which I have provided a video of the reset procedure I use. It basically requires the Front Base to be flashed with V47 and then V48. But it only works if you fully shut down the system after flashing V47. It's along shot but give it a try and see if it also helps in your case.

Good luck!

I tried it but no go. Thanks for posting it though. It was worth a shot.

Finally I've found another post that I knew existed but has proved difficult to find... https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?81652-Having-trouble-with-the-Front-Base-and-Z170-Check-th...
Toward the end of post #1 it is suggested to restart the driver. My guess is that this reloads the wboxtt process which as I understand needs to be running to report the CPU frequency and fan speeds plus system temps. You should be able to see it running in the Windows Task Manager.
Here's another useful post that might help, although it's referring to older drivers but the sequence should be the same... https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?49377-ROG-Front-Base-CPU-frequency/page3

I don't know why it seems so difficult for ASUS to make this simply plug and play as it's dedicated to their own hardware!!!!
