Our preferred memory stress test

Google stressapp test via Linux Mint (or another compatible Linux disti) is the best memory stress test available. Google use this stress test to evaluate memory stability of their servers – nothing more needs to be said about how valid that makes this as a stress test tool.


Install Linux Mint from here: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php


Install the Google Stress App test from here:


http://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/stressapptest


Once installed open “Terminal” and type the following:


stressapptest -W -s 3600


This will run the stressapp for one hour. The test will log any errors as it runs. This test is more stringent than Memtest for DOS, Memtest for Windows and any other memory test we have used so far.

What is your/ASUS opinion on HCI Design MemTest (http://hcidesign.com/memtest/)? The people over at overclock.net swear by this tool. If you purchase it, as I recently did, you can run it from a boot USB/CD. Otherwise you have to run it from within Windows.

The Windows version of HCI Memtest is a good test for hammering the cache and memory simultaneously. Googlestressap is more memory focused and picks out memory related errors faster than HCI Memtest does.

I always tested RAM with Memtst86 from DOS.
Over night always, at least 10h.

Where can I find instructions for HCI Memtest, and how many Windows I need to open to test in same time?

It means it's about to perform a power spike test. You can disable/adjust the pause.

Raja, I'm trying to run this test but keep getting the same error.

Process Error: memalign returned 0
Process Error: failed to allocate memory
Process Error: Sat::Initialize() failed

Status: FAIL - test encountered procedural errors

Process Error: Fatal issue encountered. See above logs for details
