Hello everyone! I'm wondering is it save to buy this monitor given the massive problem with a random vertical issue? (firmware issue). How can I make sure that I buy a monitor without this issue? In what revision of monitors this problem has been fixed? I'm going to buy a monitor that was produced in February 2018. Is there a fix for this issue on 144Hz?

This problem is known and I personally faced this issue on this monitor a year ago. I waited a while and would like to buy this monitor again, but there is a possibility that the issue hasn't been fixed. The fact is that this problem is found not only on the ASUS monitors but also on the monitors of other brands, where the 2K panel by AU Optronics. It seems that other brands haven't fixed this issue, although quite a long time has passed. And so here are a few topics where this problem is described:

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?87380-Firmware-Update-for-ROG-SWIFT-PG279Q

Are you seriously? Have you really not heard of this problem?

Has ASUS really fixed this problem? In which revision of the monitor, this problem was completely fixed?

Actually I did see that thread necroed recently...I just presume since it was a mid 2016 thing it was all done and dusted and all monitors will be shipping with updated firmware...most of those links are 2016 too...

The odds of you getting an early monitor that has been sitting about are small I'd guess...

I have one of these monitors...I had some colour problem with the first one I had and I've seen threads here with the same....have seen quite a few backlight bleed problems which I would say are the main complaint...

But complaint threads on forums are, no doubt, a small percentage of the real world shipped monitors...if everyone wrote in to forums with A-OK stories then things would be put in better perspective. My first monitor went to RMA through Amazon...they shipped me a new one...it's mint...no problem so far it's from "May 2017" batch

So you didn't have a similar problem at 144Hz?

No, I have never had a problem with any of the games/drivers/gpus I've used with this monitor so far...

And what about dead pixels? I've looked about 7 monitors and on black background there are tiny luminous green dots.

The fact is that this problem is absolutely on all monitors with AUO panel, including monitors of other brands. Most likely you just don't see these dots.

Check this link, I've seen monitors with the same issue:

I have zero here so I can't say

Well if you have seen that on 7 monitors I'd think you would look elsewhere for your next screen. Along with vertical stripes etc you must be the unluckiest PG279Q customer ever...maybe you can win a free monitor for that

You are correct...I don't see them...

Wait...if I sit in the dark and rub my eyes really hard...I can see all sorts of spots

I demand an explanation ASUS
