Need Help: G752VM won't boot from Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSD

Hello all,

I am on day 2 of trying to migrate the OS from the factory installed 1TB HDD to a Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSD i purchased. The first issue was getting the laptop to recognize both drives at the same time, which i accomplished by changing the SATA configuration to AHCI, then booting windows in safe mode so that the OS would enable the AHCI config.

I then shrunk the HDD C drive partition down to fit on the new SSD (about 470 GB). I have cloned all of the partitions from my HDD to the SDD (the C drive, the recovery partition, and the system partition). It still won't boot off the SSD. I've tried messing with various settings in the BIOS and still nothing. Its almost as if the computer doesn't see the drive prior to it booting in the OS. It gives me a blue screen and tells me something isn't connected when I only have the SSD connected. If i try to run the windows recovery fix function, it says it can't fix it. If i try to install a new copy of windows to the SSD from the recovery program, it says the volume is too small. I have made sure my BIOS is the latest version, 302 i think.

If anyone can help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it. I've searched the forum and didn't get anywhere, i've been googling damn near everything i can think of and still can't figure it out. Thanks in advance!

Yes if your hard drive is still booting and working. Try Macrium Reflect Free, and Clone your entire Hard Drive to your New SSD. Don't fool with partitions other than to shrink your C partition during the set up of the Clone.

Thanks for the tip! I did wind up using Macrium to build a system image and used the Windows PE function to load it on the SSD. Windows backup absolutely refused to make a backup image. kept giving me error after error. I'm up and working now. thanks for the help.

Glad it worked for you, these new M.2 SSD's can really be tricky to get up and running the first time
