TB not working after BOS upgrade 2204

Hi!

I have a Z690 Proart Creator WiFi mb connected to a Motu 828ES and a Focusrite 8PreX via Thunderbolt used for music production.
This has been working okay (in Win 10 with BIOS 1720) although quite often with some problems regarding initiation of audio drivers etc.

A couple of days ago I decided to upgrade to BIOS 2204, hoping that TB functionality and stability had improved some, BUT now the audio interfaces are not identified or initiated at all.

Previously it worked if I turned on Motu + Focusrite + computer at the same time, BUT now it doesn't work at all, no matter how I try to start interfaces and computer. The audio interfaces are not recognised or initiated.

- Anyone else experiencing this kind of issue?
I have contacted Tech support regarding this but no reply yet!.

Did you update your Intel Management Engine (ME) to latest before updating the BIOS?

https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/proart/proart-z690-creator-wifi/helpdesk_b...

Before BIOS update, please download Intel ME update tool from ASUS support site, and update ME firmware to Version 16.1.25.2020 to ensure optimized system settings.

I'm not 100% certain that's the cause of your problems, but it's a likely candidate.

Hello, Hackej.

As suggested by Murph_9000, before updating the bios to version 2204, have you also updated the Intel ME firmware?
If not, it is recommended that you refer to the link below to update ME firmware to Version 16.1.25.2020 to ensure optimized system settings.
https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1047868/
Then check to see if the situation is still present after completion.

Thank you.

Hi, and thanks for replies.

Yes, prior to BIO Update I updated ME to Version 16.1.25.2020.

I have tried to downgrade to BIOS 1720, which doesn't work as I expected.
I have also downgraded to BIOS 2004 and 2103 with the same result, audio interfaces via TB are not recognised or inititated.

Hello, Hackej.

After updating the BIOS, have you checked whether the drivers of both the Motu 828ES and Focusrite 8PreX have been updated to the latest version?
May I ask if you have*tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to see if the issue can be fixed?
Which port on the motherboard the two devices are connected to via Thunderbolt?

Could you help to confirm the question below as well?
- the current BIOS version
- the serial numbers of your motherboard and GPU via pm
- the brand and model name of the CPU, DRAM, GPU, and PSU currently installed
- the OS version and OS build

Thank you.

Hi there!

I'm having a very similar issue myself. I just posted on this forum too if you want to check out the details and what I have done so far.

I's really frustrating and sad to know that you also had this issue after updating the BIOS but now rolling back is not resolving the problem, I was about to give that a try 😞

Have you reinstalled the thunderbolt drivers and thunderbolt control center? It doesn't work for me but maybe it does for you.

I'm having the exact same issue on a Z690 Formula board. Connected to a Focusrite red4pre; and brought a UA Apollo to test as well. No audio devices are working with the thunderbolt connections on 2204 bios. Updated Intel ME beforehand, Windows 11 fully updated, drivers for interfaces updated. Gone back to a USB interface to get a project done, but it is not optimal. No Thunderbolt header on board either, was going to try a TBEX 4 card; but not an option.

Tested interfaces with macbook, working perfectly there without any hassle.

Hello, raugam111.

We appreciate you providing the details in your post:

And I will respond to you first in this link if there are any updates.*

Thank you.

Hi all!

Some update.

After initiating this thread I have had contact with ASUS support and received an adjusted version of 2204 which did not work neither.

I don't think they know what may be the problem, so for me it ended up with a new BIOS version so I could revert back to 1720 again.
They also wanted me to turn in my mb for analysis, but I haven't done that...yet.

So now it works as before, i.e. It works okay in certain situations, but for example not with plug n play.
