XMP - Memory

I have XMP Memory and can't seem to either make it work or confirm that it is working.

RIVE MB
i7 3930
Ripjaws F3-17000CL11Q - 16BGZL (DDR3-2133 PC317000) CL 11-11-11-30 2N 1.6V

I set the bios to:

XMP
Profile #1
Mode 1
Voltage 1.6

This is what I get from Asus CPUZ

Why I'm I not seeing speed 2133 or PC317000? (Max Bandwith PC3 126800) ?

XMP profile 1 is 1866MHz

Please try profile 2 🙂

Hi there Joe

I have the exact same memory as you, and they run fine on profile 1 at 2133.

17965

I followed this example but put the CPU VCCSA Manual Voltage = 1.250
MB: Asus Rampage IV Extreme CPU: 3960X Extreme Edition
RAM: G.Skill RipJaw Z (4x4GB 2133 Mhz) GPU: 2 x Asus Geforce GTX 680 Direct CU II TOP Ed. SLI
SSD: 2 x Intel 520 Series 240GB PSU: Corsair AX1200 CHA.: Cooler Master Cosmos II
COOL.: Corsair Hydro H100 KEYB.: Logitech G19 MOU.: Mad Catz Cyborg M.M.O.7 OPT.: Asus BW-12B1LT
HDD: 2 x WD Caviar Black Edition 2TB MON. 1: Samsung Syncmaster S23A700D
MON. 2 + 3: Samsung Syncmaster XL2370

I think I need to expand on what is going on with my setup.

I have the CPU overclocked at 100 x 43 (4.3 G) which requires the overclock tuner to be set to manual. When I set it to XMP and try to reset the CPU back to 100 x 43 the computer gives me the BSOD. If I try to level up I get 125 x 34 (4.250 G) and then try to set the XMP the computer trys to boot but shuts down after 1-2 seconds, trys again for about 20 seconds, shuts down then back to 1-2 seconds. This goes on and on and never boots until I clear the CMOS. I have always used profile 1 and mode 1 which sets the memory speed to 2133. I don't change any voltages.

If I set the XMP it works.

If I set the overclock it works (level up or manual)

If I set them both .... it doesn't work.

I don't know why the system cannot be overclocked with the XMP?

The prob is the change of Bclck. When the XMP sets the memory speed, it is a multiplier, not a speed. So when you raise the bclck by 25%, it raises the memory speed as well by 25%. This is one of the reasons I don't recommend using XMP when OCing.

I suggest you set these:

Extreme Tweaker menu:
Ai Overclock tuner: Manual
Bclk freq: 100 (default stock speed)
CPU Strap: 100 (default stock speed)
Memory freq: DDR3-1867
Extreme tweaking: Disabled (default)
EPU power saving mode: Disabled (default)

VTT CPU V: Auto (default)
2nd VTTCPU V: Auto (default)
CPU VCCSA manual V: 1.25
DRAM V (chA, chB): 1.6
DRAM V (chC, chD): 1.6
CPU PLL V: Auto (default) (make sure it runs at at least 1.9V)
VTTDDR voltage (chA, chB): Auto
VTTDDR voltage (chC, chD): Auto
CPU spread spectrum: Disabled
PCIe spread sprectrum: Auto (default)
(xxxx Tweaker's paradise settings all default)

DRAM timing control submenu:
Rampage Tweak: Mode 1 (compatibility)

CAS (tCL): 11
RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 11
RAS Pre time (tRP): 11
RAS ACT time (tRAS): 30
DRAM command mode ("command rate"): 2t (2n)
The rest set at "auto" (default)

Digi+ power control submenu:
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled (default)
VCCSA current capability: 120%
DRAM-AB current capability: 130%
DRAM-CD current capability: 130%

Monitor menu:
Anti surge support: Disabled

Then if that works, try higher speeds.
Your CPU is not guaranteed by Intel to run >DDR3 1600. If you are unlucky, you won't be able to run such high speed RAM. But if it don't work, plz tell us, we can try other settings.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

Sorry didn't get back earlier:

Had to get a water cooled heatsink setup. As always it created another problem. I got a Corsair H80i and the installation went well but, the software Link 2. ? (i forgot the version) runs for about 10 minutes and BOSD. I haven't made any changes to the bios. I just let it run and it crashes. So I tried taken the fans and instead of letting the H80i run them I plugged the directly in the CPU Fan on the MB. Well I'm now running 2 120mm fans at 2500rpm. It sounds like and storm. I can't get the fan speed to be controlled by temp yet....maybe the MB isn't a good place to have the fans plugged into. If I remove the software I get one speed which seems to be the one I had set when I uninstalled.

I did check around and so far the only thing that seems to correct, the BOSD, is to roll back the Itel chipset drivers from 3.5 back. I don't want to do that so I'm still looking for an answer.

Since you've already overclocked your machine, set up your RAM manually. If you need help, there's a simple guide in my signature.

HW has it spot on. Changing strap to 125 means that your ram target frequency will also increase.

I'll try the settings he is suggesting ... I hope they work. Do I set the OC (100 X 43) for your settings HW?

I did mention that even when I set the XMP (profile 1 and mode 1 speed 2133) in a manual oc (100 x 43) I get the BSOD.
