When talking about high-density kits above stock operating frequency (i.e overclocking) the margin for what will work without additional tuning diminishes. The QVL exists to ensure users the best possible chance of compatibility. Moreover, what works for one user may not work for the other as CPU silicon variance is far more important with these configurations where signal margins are tighter. Of course, you're welcome to purchase a high-speed high-density kit not present on the QVL and then try to tune the kit accordingly by adjusting frequency, timings and voltages manually.
Hope this helps 🙂
