Newegg listing November 2nd and 3rd:

96062

Newegg listing November 4th, today:

96063

Did Newegg sell out their known incoming quantity of boards as Pre-Orders in 48hours? OR did they simply change the purchasing status?

Who knows right?

Did anyone grab a pre-order?

I do keep thinking about getting a test bench with something like an i9 9900K on it. Just to play with, but then I keep reminding myself that I have no use for such a thing. From a practical perspective, I don't need anything. I've got great graphics and audio via a good soundbar, a graphics tablet, SD radio, label printer, colour laser printer, good microphones, two monitors, good mouse and keyboard, game controllers, separate amp for the headphones, 6E router, NAS, mains power supply smoothing unit, additional USB power brick.

I love getting new gadgets, but I can't think of anything that I actually need. There must be something I'm missing. Suggestions welcome 🙂

I'd love a 790 Apex, I know how happy you are with yours. I'm just thinking that I've had this 690 Hero for only 10 months, so I think I'm going to have to miss a gen or two. Panther lake in 2025 might be the next upgrade sweet spot for me I think. I bet those boards will have Gen 5 NVME slots everywhere and I bet the CPUs will be faster and more energy efficient. I bet it will be DDR6 RAM by then as well. Maybe 12Ghz - that's only a total guess in the dark by the way 🙂 But there will be a thermal limit I guess, unless we will have to have water cooled RAM as well lol

Yea, don't buy it if you don't currently need it, but "plan it" for when you do. Make out a hardware list to purchase for say Z990 and Panther Lake in 2025 gives plenty of time. That's my next gen upgrade Z990. Z890 Intel will introduce the chiplet technology, yet Z990 will be a refinement of that tech, let them work the bugs out. lol

I'm staying with the odd number chipsets for now, lol Z390, Z590, Z790, Z990, all refinements of the previous gen except Z590 was definitely not a refinement of Z490, lol Rocket Lake was an isolated stop gap before Alder was ready, and Comet Lake offered me nothing from Coffee Lake same architecture same node only improved IMC and more cores.

We will still be using DDR5 for Panther Lake in 2025 John, and yes 10,000MT/s DDR5 might be considered mainstream by then lol. 🙂

Yea John plan for Z990 and we can both grab the Z990 Apex and an i9 KS chip and super-speed mem kits and go FULL BLAST in 2025, wooooooooo!

I can help you with a test bench build for Z990, just minor nuances really from a standard chassis/case build.

OK Bruce, it's a plan. Z990 for us then. Exciting. We'll have a launch party with pizza, pies and lots of beer 🙂 Nice to have a plan.

"This is not the PSU you're looking for."

Guys running the big 4080s and 4090s, this PSU is not enough PWR for your graphics cards, grab a Seasonic 1300watt or 1600watt.

It is ideal for silent builds, ideal for home office builds using low power 70watt SFF cards for sharp clear text, and the titanium rating means very low waste heat is dumped into your office space over a 10hr workday.

Yea I wish Seasonic had a 750watt or 800watt fanless available, but as of right now they do not. Currently I'm using a Seasonic 850watt titanium (with fan) from 2016 as a backup when things go wrong PSU, to be replaced "job well done" with a TX-700 fanless arriving today. The 850watt with fan goes back in it's box ready for the next PSU issue needing a solution. 🙂

https://seasonic.com/prime-fanless-tx

All I'm removing from the box today for installation is the PSU itself and the shorter of two stock Molex cables for the D5 pump. Boot time might be slightly faster with fanless units since there is no fan self-test at startup - obviously since no fan. 😛

John, I'm not waiting until 2025 for pizza and wings and beer, bro that happens today since new hardware is arriving. 😮

I can't match the pizza, wings and beer, but we are trying a new curry house tonight 🙂

Sounds delicious. I'm staying home gf and baby are going to grandparents so I can have my computer play time.

And as far as the cost of the Z990 platform in 2025, if we both sell the older hardware we have laying around - Z990 as outlined below is already paid for, if you get what I mean.

ROG Z990 Apex
Intel 15900KS
Gskill 9200MT/s CL38 mem kit

It's really only 3 components to purchase or as I like to call them "Speed Parts".

Cannot figure out what's going on with Braegnok's Apex build. It's been 2weeks he's had the Apex and already had the 13900KS sitting on his workbench.

Maybe he didn't like the KS and returned it to Newegg or whatever retailer for a better one? Wish he'd let us know what's going on. Half the fun of building and overclocking is when others have the exact same gear and you can compare results and help one another. 😞

Wanted to see what he could do with that 7800 mem kit.

------

Gskill 7600 mem kit down to $309 today at Newegg - lowest price ever - $100 less than the launch price last October.
