Help 4080 temperatures

Hello everyone. I just build a new pc. Everything runs fine. All drivers up to date. Tried my best to install everything without added bloatware.

However i loaded up my first game to play which is Resident Evil 4 Remake, at 1440p ultra settings. I noticed the hotspot of my 4080 asus rog strix ( not super, got it used) reaching 90Celcious.

Is this normal? Please advise. I will provide photos of temperatures and measurements to help assess the situation.

Hello. My fans are working right. What was actually needed was re application of thermal paste. After that everything works fine temperstures droppes 40 Celcious. You can also undervolt it with msi afterburner for an even more smoother operation.

Hi, I have the same problem with high GPU temperature. Did you buy a new adapter? My GPU has a 2000 rpm fan speed at the same temperature. Maybe your GPU fan speed  is limited.

Did your GPU have a warranty? How did you replace the thermal paste yourself or did you get it replaced under warranty?

Thanks for sharing your experience!!!

If you live in the US, you will not void your warranty if you change the thermal paste. You can find some videos on youtube that show you how to open the GPU like installing gpu water blocks.

I see that we have a very similar build (GPU, CPU, MoBo). I built my dream computer myself in August. I decided to base it on ASUS products from the Strix series. The motherboard, power supply, graphics card, cooling and even the case - everything is from the Strix series. I noticed the GPU problem after about three months of normal gaming (three or four times a week for a few hours). For example, while playing Ghost of Tsushima, the GPU temperature was 65 degrees Celsius, but the hotspot was able to reach even 100-105 Celsius. Probably degradation of the thermal paste, but I decided not to replace it myself so as not to lose the warranty. I reported it through the store where I bought the GPU. Now I've been waiting for over three weeks and still nothing. My previous four GPUs were all from Gigabyte. I never had any problems with them. I learned my lesson.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience! When you get the GPU back, tell me please, how they helped you with the problem, how long did it take? what are the temperatures now?

Hi there, I have a rog strix 4090 since  01/30/2023 and like you after few months playing had high temps and high hotspot temps. I tried to change the thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly and MX-6 but after few months the temperature was going high again. I was about to send my GPU to Asus but I ended up finding some information about Honeywell PTM7950 and decided to try it. It's been 6 months now after I applied it to my GPU and the temperatures are very low. You can find here: https://www.performance-pcs.com/search/?q=ptm7950

I recommend using the pad because the paste is really hard. I had to heat it up to be able to work with it.

Hello, thanks for the advice. I will try to find honeywell ptm7950 in Europe so i can apply it in a few months on my gpu. So far i havent found it anywhere in Europe that can be shipped to my country ( Cyprus ).

I'll explain my situation a bit more. I'm from Europe. There's a sticker on one of the screws (from the backplate). I suspect that removing it may void the warranty. I decided to send the GPU for repair through the store just to be sure. I reported it on November 29, the courier picked up the package on December 4, and on December 6 it went further, I assume to Asus. Do you think that a simple operation of applying paste will go quickly? Wrong. It's December 31 and I still haven't heard anything from them. I have a very strong feeling that my GPU is lying somewhere in a warehouse, happily collecting dust. Something I could do myself in one day, but I didn't do it because I was worried about the warranty. As I mentioned earlier, my four previous GPUs were from Gigabyte and I never had any problems with them. Sure, anything can get damaged, but when buying a product that is promoted as premium, you expect a bit more by paying 15-20% extra.
