[Wireless Router] What is guest network pro? How to use it?
Guest network pro is a upgraded version of guest network that is set up within a larger network, usually in a home or office. The guest network pro is typically used to provide Internet access to visitors or guests without allowing them access to the main network or to other connected devices, also provides network content filter that is used to block or allow access to certain types of online content on a network.
Note:
1). By creating a Guest network pro, a VLAN will be created as well in VLAN settings.
2). Guest network pro supported models:
- RT-AX86U Pro, GT-AX11000 Pro, more models are coming.
3). Content filter is powered by DNS based services.
Guest network:
- Create a guest network with a WiFi schedule and access rights to control when and how guests can use the network.
Kid’s network:
- Create a network for kids that blocks access to adult content* and has a schedule to control when the network is available.
IoT network:
- Create an IoT (Internet of Things) network that blocks malicious traffic* and only allows 2.4GHz devices to connect.
VPN network:
- Create a VPN network that connects to 3rd party VPN services or with ASUS site to site VPN(https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1048281/) to encrypts your internet connection and hides your IP address to protect your online activities from being tracked or monitored.
How to setup Guest network pro:
- Login to ASUSWRT and go to Guest Network Pro page: http://www.asusrouter.com/SDN.asp
- Click “Add a network”or "Guest Network Quickly build a guest network" to create a Guest network pro.
How to assign filter on Guest network pro?
1. Create/select a guest network pro on list.
2. Click “Advanced settings”
3. Disable “Connect to DNS server automatically”, and “assign” a DNS server you want, or you can input customized DNS server.
4. Click [Apply] to save the setting.
How to assign VPN on Guest network pro?
1. Create/select a guest network pro on list.
2. Click “VPN” tab.
3. Enable VPN.
4. Select a VPN on list. (If there is no VPN client on your router, you will need to create one first.)
5. Click [Apply] to save the setting.
