Crosshair VIII Formula PCH Diode High Temp 80C

The X570 chipset does run hot, but that seems a bit high.  Is the chipset fan running ok?  Any obstructions or dust on it?

Comp was shutdown for a few hours upon turning on PCH was 50 ish and went right up to 70 within 10 mins. Fans always running. This is an open case build which i have found a few interesting things regarding temps vs closed case... but this temp seems high is all. Gonna try to rig a fan probly lol

Ok, comp has been asleep for about 4 hours in a 70 degree climate controlled room. These are temps after being on for about 5 mins.

Board is only a few months old and I do smoke in here but have an air purifier and central air to move and clean the air so board is clean.

Really would just love some confirmation that other boards are running similar (not high temp maybe?? 60-80 C PCH)

Well, it's not exactly the same chipset, but my X570S (2nd gen X570, with passive cooling, no fan) runs in the high 60s a lot of the time.  From what I've heard, 1st gen X570 was a hot little chipset, but 80C does seem a bit on the high side.

Before I moved my GPU to vertical front mount on a riser cable, it was running as high as about 75C sometimes.  Moving my GPU created a load of cool airflow across the chipset heatsink that just wasn't possible with a 2.9 slot Strix GPU covering it (and dumping some of its heat onto the chipset).  In your build, I guess you only have passive airflow across the board, but you do have the chipset fan itself (if the GPUs are not blocking it too badly).

68C from a 1st gen X570 doesn't feel like a problem to me, a big improvement over 80C.  My X570S is sitting at 67C as I type this, and I'm not at all concerned by that.

Something you could try is updating your AMD chipset drivers, if you've not already done so.  ASUS still have version 3.10 from 2021 on the downloads pages for the Crosshair VIII series, but AMD have had an entire 4.x series since then and are now on 5.x.  I've run most of the 4.x versions as they came out, and am now on 5.02; all have seemed to be trouble free for me.  I'm not saying that the 3.10 drivers are bad, or that newer will specifically improve thermals, just it's probably worth trying the newer ones to see if they help.

Yeah I would almost say my thermometer was busted bc it barely moves except for the fact is does from being off to after running for 20 mins or so even idle it gets up to 78* and just stays there. Crosshair VIII Formula - board bios and aida show PCH Diode temps and fans as accurate to each other and running. 2080ti x2 in SLI, twin 980pro nvm.2 and cpu is only things on that lane i think? Have sata_6 x2 to some drives as well.

Correct with the open frame its only ambient air 23C ish regularly. the 2080ti turbos are reference design so running the single center intake fan with exhaust out the back. CPU radiator and psu are seperated airflow wise so theirs no hot air being drawn in anywhere... PCH fan slot on the shroud i can still see between gpus, so at most pch is fighting for air near a gpu intake... but its still around 23C room temp air their both pulling through.

Set both Samsung 980's to regular from performance mode, made no difference in drive temp or PCH temps over short period of checking, same with adds an additional fan for airflow blowing onto the PCH, those are about only things i can really do anyways lol.

Drivers all completely up to date.

I have a Strix X-470-F on my secondary build here but haven't been able to even get a PCH temp reading from sensors on it as to compare. I guess as it sits at 78C right now still that it just is what it is bc this computer is BANGING in every way lol. Built this spring and have been slowing adding apps and getting it completely stable and this is about the only thing I cant figure out on it lolol
