Hello.

I got a Asus Crosshair VIII Hero.

No matter what I type in CAST Latency (CL) it wont do it. stock is CL 16-16-16-38 if I change that to CL 15-16-16-38 it will said what I typed, but it will stil be at CL 16. if I type 17, it will be 18 and so on, it does not work. im on bios 1201. Did try 2 other bios without any luck. what is going on here? only CL does not work, the rest in the memory timings works fine. did test the kit on my X299, no problems. This is a mortherboard issuse.

It is this ram kit: https://www.proshop.dk/RAM/GSkill-TridentZ-RGB-DDR4-3600-C16-QC-32GB/2583289

Thats because Ryzen only works with even numbers in for the CAS portion. So it can only be 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 etc.... the other settings can be both odd and even. All Ryzen work this way.

Actually you can disable Geardown Mode in BIOS and Ryzen work will odd latencies as well 🙂

Where did this false fact come from? I keep hearing it said is response to odd latencies, then eventually someone will mention setting Gear Down to false and the problem is solved.
