ROG Zenith Extreme (X399, socket TR4) - info, experience, updates

FlanK3r
Level 13

AMD showed new highend chipset named AMD X399, this is specially for HEDT segment of CPUs. Many, many years AMD was not active in this segment. But the RED team is back!! The socket is named TR4, its version of the same size socket for servers, for AMD Epyc processors. This socket/LGA is huge, inside we can count crazy 4096 pins!! But not all these pins are electricaly active (its my idea, why Epyc cant work inside TR4)

CPUs Ryzen Threadrippers will be relase in configurations up to 16C/32T this summer.
Great bonus of this platform are numbers of PCIe 3.0 lines inside the CPU, which it offers 64! CPU and this board has support of quadchannel RAM DDR4 up to capacity 128 GB (I heard, in theory, this CPU can working with more)

MOTHERBOARD

Rights near RAM DIMM slots we can see special slot named DIMM M.2 slot. This special feature you can know from Maximus IX Apex. Its great value for NVMe M.2. Besided Threadripper has direct lines to CPU for NVMe, so lower latency 🙂 Two 8-pins for CPU is needed for serious OC and specially for LN2, switchs to PCIe slots, voltage measuring points, buttons start+reset and more. Example front USB3.1

SATAs and also U.2 port

In same wawe as Rampage X299, there is dash board for information about frequency, temperatures, speed of fan etc...Nice bonus is special LAN card ROG Aerion 10GB/s

Integrated IO shield, buttons for CLR CMOS, BIOS Flashback, backlighting of audio outputs, USB3, USB3.1 and looking at the Wi-Fi! This Wi-Fi support last standard 802.11ad!

At the board are features for driving your fans, cooling, include wattercooling and of course, dont forget at RGB AURA/AURA Sync or 3D print supopor.
Im looking forward sooooo muuuuch and promise, LN2 OC results coming 🙂

video from Linus (ah, this is the guy who broked few pins in socket ,-D)

Updated on Zenith support page. ^^
Intel LAN driver (9/11/2017)
X399 Chipset driver (9/11/2017) (Chipset version is same as the one on AMD support page)

Hope to get a Enermax Liqtech TR4 360 AIO with 100% IHS Coverage in 1-2 weeks^^
They starting to get available in EU now. A bit more expensive where I live than a NZXT X62 but not much.
Looks like the AIO pump and the fans is controlled by motherboard like normal,
so no silly software or USB connection to mess things up.:)

I managed to score one when NewEgg had them in stock. It's fantastic. I feel like my chip couldn't breathe with the H115i. It XFRs to 4.075 frequently. It was maxing at 3.9 in brief spurts previously.

Been trying 0046 for a while cause I was curious and I have not tested this on previous versions.

There is something odd with VDDSOC Phase Control when it is set to Optimized.
After it is applied and a restart all sensors in UEFI show NA for a long time and if scrolling down "Extreme Tweaker" menu
towards voltages or up again it goes really slow.
After a while they pop up, but it is still slow when moving up or down on the "Extreme Tweaker" menu.
All sensor readings showing current voltage beside the voltage menu at bottom stay black, maybe I did not wait long enough.

Standard and Extreme works fine thou. Did not test "Power Phase" cause I am unsure on that one still.^^

Setting CPU Power Phase and/or DRAM Power Phase to Optimized seems to work fine.

Well it is something different that is for sure:)
Had to reseat it cause I was unsure what screws holes got covered,
luckily it seems to be only the two on top and the two on bottom.

(Sorry about the image quality.)
First Image is how it looked after first try, rest is second.

This is one very impressive AIO.
The copper cold plate is almost smooth as EK cold plates.
The screws have springs similar to EK´s solution. EK´s solution is still better (much easier to get it right first time), but this is very close.
Default fans is actually really good (PWM mode with 2.6? (I think) sec delay - Silent fan curve).

Please be nice and turn off add-block if you have it for this one, it was expensive for him to make it.

New G.Skill memory Trident Z RGB kits for Ryzen & ThreadRipper, even a 128GB kit running at 2933 with 14-14-14-34 timings:D
http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/g-skill-releases-new-amd-compatible-trident-z-rgb-kits-for-amd-ryze...
I do not seem to have issues with current kit, but might change later cause one of my Intel RVE10´s need a larger kit anyhow.

Trident Z RGB For AMD - F4-3200C14Q-32GTZRX

Kinda have a feeling this should almost be in a sticky somewhere, cause it applies to any of these software running at the same time? 😛
The software will conflict with other LED lighting control software (such as ASUS Aura, Gigabyte Fusion, MSI Command Center/Mystic Light, NZXT CAM, etc.). Please do not install both software at the same time, or there may be software conflicts. We will be working in future versions to improve compatibility between the different software programs.

New change to the Chipset Driver, but still same version. Maybe something related to the NVMe update?
