Z370-E BIOS update loop

Hello everyone!

Today, after upgrading from 0614 to 0616 I've got loop on my system.

Computer starts, goes through POST, shows ROG logo and then advances to black background with text "Updating BIOS. Do not shut down or reset system to prevent system bootup failure". After about 5 seconds it just reboots and goes over the same thing again. I'm aware that it is normal process, but it doesn't seem like it is okay to reboot 50 times... I had this issue in past, when I just bought the MB, but it fixed itself somehow. Now I'm stuck and I can't do anything with it. The irony is that MB goes through self-check (all lights on MB show proper boot sequence) normally and even keyboard works (can even switch between CAPS LOCK on\off), but I can't do anything else. DEL or F2 doesn't help to get into bios, although this "hint" shows every single time. What's wrong? I've tried both 2-pin CMOS RESET and battery removal. Moreover, I've tried to disconnect GPU and my two SSD's. I didn't tried to remove RAM, however, since it is hidden behind massive Dark Rock Pro cooler... My ram is Trident Z RGB 16Gb was running on 3200mhz XMP profile. Maybe there is some kind of bug?

Once again, BIOS update, according to what was shown on a screen, went through without any issues. I've updated through menu by loading file from root of my second SATA SSD.

I have the same mobo and I also plan to upgrade the bios soon.

@OP please let us know if you were able to solve the issue or if you had to RMA it.

I believe he already solved the issue. I don't see any more comments/complaints about this bios update.

Possibly instability during the update process.

What kind of instability could happen in UEFI itself? Not so many variables... ASUS has to check something in their motherboards for sure.
I also share the same sentiments with OP - worrying if I'll brick my mobo when updating due to corruption etc. --- I am planning to update to 0616 but from the look of things I'll try to wait it out for more days if there are more issues or whatsoever. I believe this is a random incident. But yeah, what could've caused this in the first place?

Follow up question: Have you tried the CrashFree BIOS 3 utility? If you still have the mobo manual, there's an explanation for that especially when these type of BIOS update problems occur.

Thank You for your support! 🙂
I've tried CrashFree utility, but ASUS website provide zero useful information regarding details of the process. After ton of googling the only thing I found is that the bios .cap file should be renamed to exactly Z370EGAM.cap. Moreover, usb flash drive should be 8GB or less of storage and it must be formatted in FAT32 file system.
On top of that, the usb drive should be inserted into specific rear port on the motherboard (which one? I tried all of them but no luck) and then, I have no idea how, the BIOS flash process should appear on the screen. Does it require any keys to be pressed on the boot? Should all other storage (including SSD's/HDD's) be disconnected? What about other devices? Would it work in my situation or only in those situations where motherboard does not POST? Mine, technically, posts, but stuck on BIOS Updating message after ROG logo. Noteworthy that ASUS Phone Support did not even mentioned this ASUS CRASHFREE BIOS 3 feature. Besides useless non-detailed instructions in MB manual and on the website, this feature looks like some kind of marketing gimmick that has no any value. Maybe someone here can provide more info on that feature?

Memory instability isn’t limited to just the os.

Does it mean that I have faulty RAM or something?

Although I would say a big Thank You if you have more details on CRASHFREE BIOS 3 recovery process. 🙂

Not necessarily faulty, just might not be fully stable at default settings. Difficult to guess what caused the issue to occur.

Today, suddenly, on the second reboot my motherboard started normally. No issues so far. I have no idea how it fixed itself.
BIOS Ver 0616

I've had that happen before. Usually takes a day or two.

It just, suddenly, worked as normal. I'm still on 0616 - afraid to update it again 😄
