So, for us noobs who havn't overclocked much all these Intel 8 gen voltage regularities and heat issues are hard to get around. Therefore, it might help to have a starting point, something to aim for and something to brag about.

Please post in this thread a description of your overclock using the following format:

  • Motherboard & Bios version
  • Overclock
  • small/medium/maximum overclock?
  • What settings and values did you change from default bios settings to the overclock?
  • Cooling hardware + settings
  • Idle, gaming and 100% usage / stress temperatures + mention of thermal throttling

Example:

  • Motherboard: Z370-E, bios: 0420
  • 4.8ghz all core
  • small overclock
  • Multiplier: 48 on all cores, vcore 1.26v, asus multicore enhancement: off, XMP: enabled 3200mhz
  • NZXT Kraken X62 280mm AIO with fans and pump set to performance mode
  • Idle: 27C°, 60C° when gaming and at 100% usage: 73C° almost immediately which caused thermal throttling down to 4.2/4.3Ghz

I don't think at 72 you are being thermal throttled check this thread https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?97131-Strix-Z370F-8700K-Power-Limit-Exceeded you are being power throttled turning MCE on and setting my voltage manually fixed that for me.
