how do you guys drop back to prev bios version ? isn't locked to do so?

Talking about only the Apex XI as I don't know about other models.
You can go back to ANY older bios version on this board. I don't even use the flashback port in the back on my rig. I can use any usb port to flash my bios.
I always do it manually using one of my front usb ports.
You can download all the older bios versions right from the ASUS bios page for the Apex XI , they list all the older ones plus the latest release.

Once you download the bios file you want just rename the BIOS file (M11A.CAP) using BIOSRenamer. That Asus supplies in the bios zip.
Or you can just rename it manually also Has to be named M11A.CAP , then place it on your usb stick, make it the only file on your usb stick, then just go into your bios and tell it to flash your bios to the file you have on your usb drive. Simple.
You also have 2 built-in bios choices, you could have 2 different bios versions installed and switch back and forth using the bios switch on motherboard.
I have not tried this yet myself thou.

From what I see your MB doesn't have Bios Flashback, so you won't be able to return to the previous bios by the method described by OldMike. That's why I always buy MB's that have that function.

I haved flashed older Bios on ASUS boards with EZ-Flash in BIOS many times with no problem. I don't know why you say it's not possible.....

I always have flash and tweaked bios from bios. I don't like Windows based programs for that or Flashback port. But flashback port can be useful if you do not have a working PC.

You can connect usb memory with bios file in any port on PC or monitor. The file is loaded onto the motherboard before execution.

I have flash to older bios with EZ-Flash many times as emsir.

@OldMike65 I tried what you said. gives me an error that current bios is newer.
@no1yak I have XI extreme, any other tips? ><

I havent tried overclocking yet, and my G.Skill TridentZ 3200MHz works just fine.. tho I did notice a weird issue with my EVGA 280 CLC AIO. Today trying to boot i got a CPU fan Error. I had to move one of the AIO fans to the fan header to resolve it. Nothing has changed sense I finished building this PC in OCT. Found it strange that now all of a sudden I had an issue. So far so good besides that.

I have the same mobo, Maximus XI Extreme and am able to use BIOS Flashback USB port to go to any previous BIOS version. I haven't tried that within the BIOS using ez BIOS flashing utility, though.

So far all works much the same as 1302 BIOS. But i have yet to take the system to higher OC settings apart from using XMP I @ 3600MHz and an OC of 4.9GHz at vcore 1.2v vccio 1.15v vcsa 1.1v AVX -3

Has anyone noticed this?

With Bios 1302 I have Tjmax set to 115 C, but with 1401 Bios I cannot select a value lower than 120 C, only higher. 120 C feels unnecessarily high. In case AIO cooler pump fail, happened to me with a previous system.

I use i9-9900KF. I see in the release note that Tjmax changes have been made for the i9-9900KS. I am now using 1302 again.
