STRIX-Z370-I USB Type-C port physical issue with IO shield padding

vithos

To get a USB Type-C cable to reliably make connection I have to manually hold the connector into the port, compressing the IO shield padding. Is this port in compliance with the USB spec's keep-out-zone?

Has there been a revised version of the board or IO shield?

Same issue with STRIX X399 and X570

They never care or fix or even read the thread anywayÂ*

Hello, *

I have the exact same issue with my B550i STRIX board. The IO shield is thick and the usb c cutout is too tiny. It prevents the usb c connector to fully connect into the port.

The only way is to enlarge the hole in the IO shield. This way the plastic part of the usb c connector (end of the cable) won’t interfere with the IO shield.

Did ASUS test his product ?! I’m not sure !

FWIW, I have used the USB-C port on the back of my ASUS x570 board and while it does require a bit more force to get the connection fully seated, it does connect. So I'm wondering if this comes down to small variances in cables and perhaps how snug some chassis fit the board against the IO shield. Mine is in a Bequiet Darkbase case.
