Sound - New device connected

Since I updated the BIOS (1801) and reinstalled Windows 10, I am having issues with the Sound Drivers (version 6018339_20180214R). About every hour or two, Windows freezes for about two seconds and I get the SupremeFX box (attached) notifying that there is a new device (speaker) connected.

I did the following already:
- Clean the speakers connectors;
- Utilize other speakers;
- Uninstall the sofware driver;
- Reinstall the software driver.

Thanks in advance.

I tested for more then a week after uninstalling Intel RST software. The problem disappeared completely and the computer is running flawlessly.

Glad to hear that bro ! :cool:

That could be because Intel RST has a setting called Link Power Management which puts the drive to sleep. I have Intel RST installed but have Link Power Management set to disabled and have the HDD set to never sleep in Windows power settings. The problem seems to have gone away.

My hard drives are still set to go to sleep without the RST. And I can hear one of them spinning up when awoken. But the problem disappeared. I guess it is combination of divers/firmware and RST. Maybe we should compile a list with the HDD and sound drivers/firmware and maybe we can draw a conclusion.

Well the problem came back last night. I checked my Power & Sleep settings on Win10 and somehow the power plan had changed. I read somewhere that some program from Intel was causing the power plan to change on some computers. I didn't have that exact program, so I uninstalled Intel RST. I'll now see if that stops the power plan from changing.

Ok, after some time, i can definetly say, problem is solved. It is clearly a mix of Rapid Intel Storage and especially Hard Drive going to sleep (as stated by other posters). I could replicate the problem because i had one program sitting on drive E: which i usually dont use much, when i started this program, very often problem showed up (freeze, sound stuttering and new device plugged....). So just removed Intel program and changed the time of HD going to sleep to 180min ... problem gone. It's one full week now. Thank all the guys for the precious advices.

I also have these random freezes for a few seconds in Windows 10 (on desktop or when plaing Apex Legends).

Motherboard is Maximus X Code with BIOS 1704.

It only started happening recently after I updated Windows from 1803 to 1809. Around the same time I added three HDDs, an SSD and an Asus Blu-Ray drive. So I'm using all SATA connections. Boot drive is an NVME drive in M2-1.

I also have that (apparently common) problem where the Windows power plan keeps reverting to Balanced and wont let me edit it or change plans.

I have Intel RST installed... actually I just noticed that the taskbar icon for RST is not in the tray anymore - when I opened RST from the start menu the system froze for a few seconds again. I just changed Link Power Management to "Disabled" so I'll see if that fixes it. If not I guess I'll try uninstalling RST.

I think you might solve without uninstalling RST

Haven't noticed another freeze yet. And I just played Apex Legends for 3.5 hours without any freeze or crash - so possibly might be ok now...

Same here. I believe that Intel RST was somehow changing the power plan to one that put the HDD to sleep. Since uninstalling RST and setting my power plan to Ultimate Performance (which is set to never put HDD to sleep), the freezing and popups have went away.
