I've found a solution.
1. Stop all the Aura services in your task manager (All the services related to Aura, search name by name)
2. Uninstall Aura and Aura Service
3. Erase a folder called "Lighting Control" in C:Program Filesx86...
4. Install and run CCleaner in serach of trash files and the reg issues. (Fix all the reg entries and SAVE A BACKUP COPY IN SOME FOLDER YOU WON´T FORGET)
5. Restart your PC
6. Install an old version of Aura (V1.05.32.02_20180307), you can download it in the web of your MoBo by clicking on "Utilities"... "See more" then you will see older versions.
7. Open Aura and apply some effect.
8. Restart again
9. Done

Hi, my Z370-E motherboard onboard RGB led (by VRM heatsink) stopped working 2 weeks ago, now all it does it blinks briefly rainbow style on cold system power on from Power supply then goes off, this issue started coincidentally with some light overclocking, some bios update and mostly with attempts to uninstall/delete Asus Crate app/files that are almost impossible to get rid of without messing up windows. After many hours and days trying to recover my magnificent RGB dark orange theme/on black thermaltake core P3 with dark orange fans and corsair RGB pro all with own dark orange lighting control (not set by asus aura) without any RGB strip attached to the motherboard) without success, I discovered that the option RGB lighting on different BIOS versions attempted (trying to stick with older bios for older ME firmware because more recent ones would not allow bios flash back = going between 0428, 0606 and 0616) that RGB lighting option on the motherboard bios is grayed out, although it's 2 lines options of RGB when system on on/off , and RGB when system in stand-by on/off are available to select ?!!
This also coincided with playing with rgb light 4 different lighting zones and making them all different static gradient of orange through aura software
Mitigations: all with no success.
- Tried to re-install Asus ArmouryCrate various versions and/or uninstall it either thoroughly (desperately cleansing the "infused apps related to it installed stealthly onto win10 apps)+ revo uninstaller or in a conservative way (allowing it to remain dormant in the system as Asus wants it to be): no mobo RGB detection
-tried aura cleaner with install and/or uninstall with remainders cleansing of different versions of aura software, does not detect RGB led
- tried resetting bios, flashing different versions of bios withing windows or bios environment, loading bios default or optimal settings, Clear CMOS jumper and /or removing CMOS battery
- Updated to the latest ASUS drivers and chipset drivers etcs with latest Intel ME (windows environment) management environment
-tried installing older asus chipset and other drivers and older windows intel ME
-tested with mobo RGB led hanging out testing the cable, (was very tempted to swap the connectors between the mobo plug and the led plug as they 're identical but quit the idea fearing from shorting the mobo because of different inner wiring !)
Did not update motherboard intel EMI firmware (trying to avoid that because unsure if it has performance hit on windows 7 but apparently this board came with spectre and meltdown mitigation already included in original Bios 0404 = firmware version 11.8.55 I think when tested under windows with spectre tool it says protected)
Why Bios has RGB led " line" grayed out while keeping it's lighting options available in the Bios? (2 next line with their menu)
Suspecting some conflict between corsair link service and aura, but that does not explain why it does not turn on when switched from bios, more likely some firmware issue or conflict at the motherboard level, but how it blinks shortly when system is powered up the first time by the PSU ( would not blink with restart or after a shutdown), maybe a bios update to a far more recent one that would take care of the mobo firmware as well and maybe the RGB led firmware? ...
Also before this happened noted mobo led rgb cycling rainbow and random stuff for couple of times but did not pay attention much to it as it's known behavior when installing or uninstalling asus stuff, ITS CRAZYYYYYYYYY lol, damn Armourycrate, I wish I never installed it, killed my mobo beatutiful RGB, that's how Asus punishes whoever dares to "try" (because you'll never be able to completely remove it) to uninstall it.
Please help !! Asus where are you !!!?

Hello guys, i know this is a old post, but after researching i was able to found a fix for this bug. I recently bought old set with ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING motherboard with exactly the same problem with OnBoard RGB was only flash one, when i plugged cables from power supply. No matters which version BIOS you have, working on newest (3005). You need install a fresh copy of Windows 10/11 (tested on Win10) and after that, install this version of ASUS AURA (very old version and not working very peripherals): https://driverscollection.com/_51311640006287498787f51b303/Download-Driver-for-ASUS-H270I-GAMING-AUR... after when you installed, just turn on a set mode to Color Cycle, should able to again working. After that you can uninstall this old version of AURA and go for newest AURA Lighting which can controll all RGB headers, etc.. i'm not gonna test ARMOR Crate because it is installing too long and i already tried install twice before this fix.. but probably should work. Sorry for my English.
