Q-fan step up time

I've now had two maximus boards, an 8 ranger and X hero, and both have never followed my fan step up and step down bios settings. I have my CPU set to 3.6s step up and 12s step down, case fans at 0s step up and 25s step down, but my CPU fans still ramp up and down instantly eg. opening chrome will result in an instant boost in fan speed and than an immediate decrease once it's loaded. With chrome only taking less than a second to load, obviously my step up/step down settings are not being followed. My case fans are virtually silent at my q-fan settings, hence the 0s step up, coupled with the fact the lowest step setting is 25s for case fans. It is definitely the CPU fan spinning up and down instantaneously. FWIW I have 2x Noctua AF-15 PWM CPU fans.

Is this behaviour that others have had/are having with their Maximus boards?

I really want to avoid using AIsuite, but has anyone had any luck using that for fan settings? I know it's not a particularly big deal, and in the past I have just set a level fan setting across all temps, but having my computer on my desk it can get annoying having a symphony of fans going off under light to no load.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but I tried searching "q-fan", "step up time" and got an error saying the words were too short.*

Same problem here as OP.

Chasis Fan1 Q-Fan Control = DC mode
Allow Fan Stop = Enabled
Step Up = 12 sec
Step Down = 12 sec

Q-Fan "Step Up" and "Step Down" settings for CHA1 fan (and CHA2/3/4) are ignored in practice.
Resulting with fans _immediately_ spinning up (or down) when reaching the predefined temperature, instead of delaying the action for the value set in Step up/Step setting.

Please Asus/mods... can you throw some support here?

Same problem Hero XI 0805

I think it will never be fixed, because asus doesn't care at all 😄

Still not fixed? 😞

It's sad it is still broken. But that seems to be general tune with ASUS in the last decade, maybe longer. OK hardware but terrible software and firmware support. What is even more sad is the explanation Raja@ASUS gave a few pages back. It's like the engineers did not even try. Completely false information.

Let me spell it out for you ASUS:
The fan step up time and step down time options in your boards UEFI (Q-FAN) do NOTHING. NOTHING. NADA. It has nothing to do with any CPU temperature limit. Hell, it's not only the CPU fan control, the other controllable fan headers do the same. Regardless of step up time or step down time any controlled PWM fan will track the temperature changes immediately completely ignoring the time setting. This becomes especially bad on any recent Intel chips (skylake and above) since they tend to spike the temps a lot and if you have any fan setup to track that temperature the fan rpm will freely spike with it.

My m8h was my last ever ASUS board. Had two ROG boards before that (Maximus V Gene and Maximus II Formula) and each had some sort of software troubles or advertised features never working or just getting abandoned ... And it just seems to be getting worse with each generation. Not fooling me again Asus. Never again.

I gave up on this and got a commander pro for all it's other benefits too in terms of control. I feel it worked on the stock bios but ever since 1704 and newer, had no control at all. I don't even know why they bothered to add it? There are probably a lot of elements to the bios that are canned that they recycle generation after generation and figured the juice wasn't worth the squeeze fixing this. Not sure if they make their own or if it's outsourced to AMI or one of those companies. Don't really know the logistics of all that.

Omg devs when will it be fixed?!

Q-fan step up time doesn't work on all maximus boards. Moreover, according to other posts, it never worked! When will it be fixed???
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?100499-Q-fan-step-up-time

If you can't fix it just set the default value as in non-maximus boards, not 0.1 sec OMG!!!

It's not just Intel - it has never worked on my Crosshair VI Hero X370 Ryzen motherboard either. No matter what delay time I set in bios, it never changes anything. My fans spin/up down without regard for my smoothing settings.

I wanted to know if this affected Asus Intel boards as well as AMD.....and I find this. Not impressed. It ain't good enough; which I am sure they know, but just don't seem to care enough to do much (if anything) about it. I can't recall fan smoothing ever working since I got the board in 2017.

I spend so much time trying to figure out why this didn't seem to work at all.. it's really surprising that this major feature is so completely broken.

Really...? Not a peep out of anyone from Asus

And in order to get my fans to work properly now I have to buy the 3rd party software to circumvent the buggy Asus BIOS.
I mean that's why I went with ASUS - figuring a decent support is there. Whatta disappointment..
