Maximus X Audio Popping

Hi everyone, I've noticed that I get random audio popping while listening to an audio Stream in Chrome while I am browsing other tabs or have Chrome in the background.

I have forced Chrome not to throttle background tabs and have checked that I have the latest drivers. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

The audio sounds great if I have that tab in focus, but as soon as I start browsing another tab, I get intermittent pops. This happens with multiple speaker setups and with headphones on the front IO ports. I'm thinking it is a driver issue. I have all audio enhancements turned off. I see that there are some similar issues with the previous boards but I don't see a consolidated / agreed upon solution.

Hi Arsonist,

This is a workaround that prevents hibernation, so it's not an outright solution. You can also work around the issue by disabling and re-enabling the Nvidia display driver following the system resuming from hibernation/sleep. These are the two workarounds thus far.

Hi,

Yes I understand what you meant,it doesn't solve the issue to its roots, but personally to me (and maybe for more people) it's a fix. Since disabling this feature doesn't affect system and I have normal audio again. I'm not Asus user,I just came here because people had the same issue as I had,so I know it's not hardware problem, it's definitely within windows or Nvidia, but my bet is on Windows. There's nothing much we can do I guess, just wait for next update, but before that, it's very acceptable to use that method,in my opinion.

I have been getting stuttering audio and popping noises coming from my headphones (HD 558 and AKG K712 PRO) while plugged into the onboard audio also same when I plug them into a DAC (Fiio E10K) but plugging in the headphones into a phone works perfectly fine. Also there was a post on reddit with the exact same issue and he was using the same motherboard (HERO VIII) and I'm unsure what is causing it as using diffrent headphones,DAC, formatting PC,Reinstalling drivers did nothing and still i get the issue...

Not sure how many posts you read in this thread, but it appears to be due to NV drivers and the OS.

Tried cannot find exactly which windows update caused this but gonna try to rollback my Nvidia drivers is there an easy way to do the same with Windows 10 updates to simply install a specific update? As I just formated my PC to try to resolve the issue but I'm on the newest windows update.:(:(:(:(

Difficult to say, as it could be a combination of nv driver and os update. In any case, you can disable and re-enable the nv driver in device manager if you don't want to disable fast start-up.

I wanted to add my issues on this problem. I have the Sound BlasterX-AE5 and when it boots on 40 I get this bsod sound like every 30 seconds when gaming or watching a youtube video. When it boots on A0 I don't get that sound at all. I seriously consider taking out the soundcard as I tought that was the issue until I ran into this thread.

I have no disabled fast boot up in bios and windows 10. This sound issues I have is now gone. It's weird that this issues is also affecting my soundcard.

I have the Hero Wifi and installed the SB Ae5 in the pcie x1 slot under my GPU and everything works perfectly, I see you have 2 GPU's (looks like only difference from my setup), which slot is your SB in?

And why are you seeing a code 40? should be AO on cold or warm boot or code 30 resume from sleep

Strange, I dont seem to have this issue. I have the exact same sound card, but I have the Maximus X Hero AC-Wi Fi Edition and I dont seem to have any issue, if its on 40 or A0.

I wonder if its related to your memory or if your using 2 GPU's along with M.2 configuration. If your using the M.2 configuration only for PCI Ex only, then that can be your problem to.

I place my AE-5 on the very Bottom PCI ex 1x slot] (it seems the best way to place it, So if your going to use RGB strip from it, you wouldnt want the molex covering up your board, if you decide to place it the very top one, above the GPU.. It would make it look ugly, with the molex connector plugged in to it >w< )

I currently have it on the bottom slot atm. I'm not sure if the M2 had anything to do with it but I wouldn't rule that out now that you mentioned it. It might just be me and my weird setup but it did go away once I disabled fast boot. The random bsod noise only happened when it booted up in 40 mode, never in A0.

I've tried all 3 slots same results. It's random, it'll go to 40 on a cold boot or a restart. I never put my pc to sleep, I had too much issues with it in the past. I always turn off my pc before bed or going out.

hmmm, when you install Windows 10, did you manage to use the latest image of Windows 10 , from Creation Media tool?. Another Thing, I do hope its not related to something hardware, like CPU Pins maybe bit bent of somewhat. I hate ruling things like that, since you would have to take your CPU out & check your motherboard for any damaged pins.

I know when I got my motherboard from (from Newegg) , I did hear prolly about 1 person had damage pins and he managed to fix it. Then there were some that had issues with the board, while the rest were all fine.

So I was just ruling out things and I do hope somehow you can either be able to sort out what the issue would be. I know for certain you would of updated your bios to the latest Maximus X Hero AC one.

What about your CPU VCore? Did you use Auto or Manual?
