How to enable PCIE slot 4 for Wifi 6 Card on ASUS ROG STRIX Z-370-E?

My challenge is getting the PCI-e slot 4 to work so that I might install a Wifi 6 card. (An ASUS PCE-AX58BT)

Of note:

  • I have an ASUS ROG STRIX Z-370-E motherboard
  • The PCIE_16 slot has an RTX 2080 card in it.

  • PCIE_X_1, PCIE_X_2, and PCIE_X_3 sit empty

The manual states that: “The USB 3.1 Gen2 front panel connector shares bandwidth with PCIE_x1_2 and PCIE_x1_4. If the USB 3.1 Gen2 front header is connected, PCIE_x1_2 and PCIE_x1_4 will be disabled.”

Nothing is connected to the front header listed here so PCI_X1_4 should read my Wifi 6 card.

PCIe 3 will read the card and everything works just fine but it sits super close to the RTX 2080 and I’d rather give it some breathing room as the wifi card does partially block a fan on my RTX2080.

Any idea of how to turn on/enable PCIe 4? I’ve gone into the BIOS but I’m unsure of what to alter to turn on PCIe 4. PCIe 1 is a no go because the Wifi Card has screws that hit a metal shield covering the audio jacks and thus can’t be properly seated.

Thoughts? Much appreciated!
