Hi ASUS do you plan to fix the onboard Audio codec with a BIOS fix?

I for one can confirm after now using 2 brand new Maximus XI mobos, a Code and an Extreme, which both show the exact problem with Audio popping, crackling and skipping etc, that this is not an isolated case. Especially with all the other members disclosing the same news with their Maximus XI mobos. My question is simply are the engineers working on a fix if it can be done with a BIOS update, or if there's anything at all in the works to fix this issue?

I can not see me doing 2 RMA's which was suggested, because the chances of fixing this is minus 1. Regarding a replacement, I am not comfortable with, unless the mobos have been tested before shipped to guarantee that THOSE mobos won't suffer the same issue.

I would think that knowing how many generation Realtek have been using the similar codec it should be matured enough to have no such issues. Unless the problem totally lies with ASUS not designing the circuitry around the chip well enough. But I am not looking to blame anyone really, just looking for the truth, that is simple.

If i reproduce audio from the rx580 through HDMI cable to a TV ..the issue will go away... so this is 100% hardware related... think about it..video card is fed directly by the PSU and it gives u digital audio from the gpu itself.. mobo it is not involved in that process..
jacks and usb sound is totally cheap garbage and im guessing that there is something wrong on how the mobo is sending energy and data to jacks /USB.
Asus suggested RMA, but damn it Im sure i will receive same garbage. I guess they focus on ultra high budget hardware only.

today i've installed the b550m mortar... the problem persists, sadly... im out of my mind

is not the ram, is not the psu, or ssd, hdd , case connectos, headset..none of those.... cpu related maybe? im not ocing, all stock...
my previous rig.. an h110m from msi and an i5 7400 with same radeon 580 didnt have this issue... same house, same electricity...
im really out of my mind, because maybe it is CPU related after all.... don't know what to say... can it be the rx 580 is sort of having conflicts with mobo chipset?


maybe i try to get a really cheap pcie sound card and test that..if it is good i will get a PCIe creative soundcard... back to 1999 😄

I noticed the B550 has the older ALC1200 Realtek audio chip. I doubt it's cpu related coz people with lots of different cpus on the Z170 to Z390 [possibly Z490] or any ASUS mobo with the ALC1220 series Realtek codec have been having sound issues. With me it has happened with all models Maximus VIII Ranger Z170 chipset, Maximus X Hero Z370, Maximus XI Code and Extreme Z390] be it has been mostly intermittent issues, that have come and gone, usually fixed by reinstalling drivers or using only certain driver versions etc. or reinstalling Windows 10 but the problem has mostly persisted in Linux Ubuntu [dual boot with Windows 10]. When the fact is that it can be fixed with driver [re]installations in Windows at least, it should most likely mean it's a driver issue [maybe in conjunction with a poorly designed audio chip or motherboard traces too close to other electronic noise producing components... insufficient shielding e.g., but probably quite unlikely, though]. Or not well designed OEM circuitry around the audio chip 1220? However, if ASUS engineers have had trouble designing their [high end?] mobos with such sound problems with this audio chip who am I to say where the problem lies exactly, for I am no electronics engineer. A guinea pig for experimental purpose, maybe? for keeping on purchasing ASUS high end mobos with 'unfinished" sound devices which ASUS/Realtek [like Microsoft] hope to sort out the problems/bugs as they go with driver updates / patches etc. Someone should take such unethical practicing companies to a high court that Microsoft appears to have started with their OS i.e. the trend of selling unfinished buggy products to the marketplace. That's how I see it.

Could it be a Windows issue/driver? What about trying a portable Linux distro on a USB stick to rule out Windows or driver issue in Windows?

I'm one who can in most cases fix issues like this, but this particular problem is intermittent but persistent in either OS, linux/ubuntu having the worst persistent problem with sound issues. It doesn't seem like it is an Asus issue or just an issue Asus though as dalmiroec said he replaced his MB with and MSI and he still has the issue. I have 4 different Asus MB z87, z390 and z490 and I have not noticed any skipping or popping audio issues. I am not saying it doesn't exist but it doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone. So there must be some variable that is causing it for those with the issue?

It could take someone with a pile of hardware to narrow it down as I have seen switching even a PSU out with another can cause noise in the audio or coil whine from a GPU when putting that same PSU in another PC and it doesn't cause the issue. I am not defending Asus I am just saying that will so many variables and so much different hardware/software out there it could be so many things.

Have you had other MB using the same hardware you have now that had no issues with the sound?

i read on the asus page that this had a other name than Realtek, as for that..maybe lack of real drivers, my last MSI was having issues because auto installing drivers wasnt the right way... I had to download ALC1200 or something to get it right, even then it wasnt outputting real surround...so this Corsair, USB connected, headset got all 8 channels. wont bother to change any settings up, but ASUS was better than MSI, must I add...after being fooled to buy a disfunctional asus laptop from NetOnNet ASUS repair didn`t solve anything!! don`t break worranty, and don`t trust in ADs....

Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero WiFi Z390 motherboard here...

same random subtle but audible popping every now and then playing music...Turned off Fast Startup seems to help a bit...

I'm guessing this will never get fixed...
