The pc would not even boot when activating xmp in the bios

It’s not so much the number of sticks as it is using 8GB and not 16. Having one quad channel kit with lesser timings than a dual channel isn’t worth a hill of beans if you can’t get the dual channel to work correctly. There have been multiple write ups and testing by members here showimg anything past 3600 is a waste of money and often you can find 3200 C14 that will outperform the 4000 C19, provided you can get the 4000 to work. Also on pricing supply and demand comes into play. If the kit you think is lesser of the two costs more chances are it’s more popular. In the end if the RGB functionality is the priority what’s it matter?*

At OP if you have the ability to swap out your 2 x 16GB for 4X 8 GB I would do so. Keep in mind that you need to buy a kit and not two packs of 2 sticks. Never mix and match kits. Almost guaranteed to have issues. The faster it is the more likely the problems will be. *You money would be best spent on a slower kit with less latency. I bought a 64 GB x299 kit Corsair dominator platinum 8 x 8GB quad channel 3800 C19 that will run at XMP all day but I dial it back to 3600 and C17 and always after any OC is finished. Memory is the last thing you want to dial in or you may be chasing your tail on a CPU OC just to find the memory timings we’re holding you back.*

If you can find a kit that is marked specifically for use with your chipset you will have the best results. *

not exactly the answer i'm looking for... but i'll just keep it the way things are
it still does matter even if rgb is the functionality, then i have to get 4x8 to still get the same 2x16 in the end
sidegrade is an option, downgrade is not

The reason why I opted for 2 x (16 gb )ram is because I wanted to leave open the option to go to 64 gb by adding 2 more sticks. I still do not like the idea of buying 4 rams and fill all the 4 slots removing the option to increase the amount of ram, 1 day.

The answer I did not get yet, is what is the best 32 gb ( 2 x16 gb preferred ) or (4x 8 gb not preferred) kit to buy for an asus maximus extreme xi mounting an intel i9 9900k.

Can anyone come up please with a brand and model of ram?

That would be of great help !

If you can point me to the charts that show which rams are compatible with the asus xi maximus extreme and the i9 900k would help also

I have to agree with Justin Thyme and what he has pointed out to you....

You are going to encounter compatibility issues when mixing dual kits...regardless if they are the same brand..model..timings..etc……..If you had checked the QVL for the board you would have noticed that to run 64gb memory would require a quad kit....No dual 32gb kits that I can recall...The only boards that will run dual kits at 64gb are the XI Gene and the XI Apex due to the "Double-capacity DIMM: with Optimized memory trace layout for dual 32GB DIMM support".
Here is the link to the Asus QVL for the XI Extreme...…..

Thank you so much for the replies. I am not shooting any of you for the reply :). I truly appreciate your input. Thank you! I am going to return my 2 × ( 16gb ) ram blocks and I want to get what would work the best for my CPU and motherboard based on your experience.

Please correct me if I am wrong on what I understood :

1) I need to buy a package of 4 rams . Correct?

2) 4 x 16 GB = 64gb would probably give me more problems that 4 x 8gb = 32 GB so I might have to go for 4 x 8gb . Correct ?

3) i should not buy any set that goes above 2666mhz because I would otherwide encounter problems . Correct?

4) I should buy lowest c numbers . What I do not understand is why there a series of 4 c numbers and how do I interpret them?

5) I do not care about aesthetics. The leads actually generates heat and waste energy . I want the best in terms of performance for my pc. Would you please suggest the best 4 sets ?

2) 4 x 16 GB = 64gb would probably give me more problems that 4 x 8gb = 32 GB so I might have to go for 4 x 8gb . Correct ?...( That is a possibility...yes....my suggestion would be a 32gb quad kit)

3) i should not buy any set that goes above 2666mhz because I would otherwide encounter problems . Correct?...((Not so....anything over the standard 2133mhz is considered overclocked...that being said...you should be fine with a kit that is 3600mhz -4133mhz...that being said...it's all dependant on how strong your chips IMC is )

4) I should buy lowest c numbers . What I do not understand is why there a series of 4 c numbers and how do I interpret them?...(The numbers indicate the number of clock cycles it takes the memory to perform a certain operation...the smaller the number..the faster the memory)

Would you please suggest the best 4 sets ?...….(The RGB doesn't generate as much heat as one would think...…..If you want the better of performance...my suggestion is to go with the GSkill Trident Z RGB series as they have a proven track record with compatibility/performance/overclockability and reliability.)

I am still confused about the mhz.
What I should go for ? I mean they claim these are compatible with the asus motherboard but if we use banks with too high MHz we encounter problems?

Which one should I get?

How far you can get with the overclocking and is there anything better than that for having the best ram for a z390 mounting a i9 9900k ?

How does your ram performs in such benchmark?

https://ram.userbenchmark.com/

these are my results . I was not able to go past 3700 mhz
