There is a way to update the BIOS using a BIOS flashing utility and a bootable USB disk with that utility and the BIOS file copied to the root folder. I suggest to go the the following win-raid forum and ask there, explaining your motherboard model:

Actually if you look around there should be a thread that has the flashing tool and guide on how to flash your BIOS

I use this method and it works perfectly on my rog strix z370 f-gaming

Does anyone know if this works on a ROG STRIX Z690-A WIFI D4 motherboard? I am desperate to roll back because it is not possible for my motherboard after the BIOS version 2004 update (which killed my PCs thunderbolt functionality, which I rely for my work)

You can use the AI Suite 3 software provided from the ASUS website to flash the file in Windows without going to the BIOS.
