Z270E - 3secs / 5sec beep whilst fully operational

Hi,

I occasionally hear a short low-sounding beep from my first build.

Everything is working perfectly fine (seemingly) and I boot up without any issues into Win 10 pro. Whilst in operation once in a while I hear an almost whispering 3 or 5 second long beep. In the first week of the build I heard 2 beeps, a second apart, each lasting 3 seconds each. I opened the case and made sure everything was securely connected. Since then I've heard the single strings probably 5-6 times in the last 2-3 weeks and yesterday the dual-beep emerged again. It usually occurs when the system is idle or whilst running basic tasks.

I was unable to locate ASUS's official documentation listing beep codes in full. I was only able to find a short list in which the beep pattern is not listed.

What could it be?

I'm not a 100% certain where it's coming from but it's definitely coming from inside the case. I wasn't sure if other parts alarmed beeping sounds too so i assumed it was the mobo.

No UPS, only Mains.

Everything seems to be working fine though. Ive been running several benchmarks too, played GTA 5 for 1 hour today in ultra settings without a problem. The beeping sound pre-existed my OC hence definitely not related. Successfully OC'd to 5ghz AND got RAM up to 3600mhz too (couldn't have done my first OC without Nate). Fan profiles are running as expected too and zero issues with devices - all tested and working as normal.

I thinking of taking everything apart and re-seating/re-connecting everything to see if it solves the issue. But hoping, someone can point towards a more easier solution toa void the hassle.

since the motherboard does not have beep speaker built in. did you add one on the IO conectors?

nope. Only the USB 2.0 one on the rear IO shield USB port. This is the Logtech Z200 which I added about a week ago. The long beep sounds pre-existed the speaker purchase.

Could you have a look at my parts list, these are the only parts I added to the build. Could it be one of these with an online beep speaker mechanism. Everything is new in the List apart from the second monitor and one of the SSD's, both working 100% fine.

If you don't have that little speaker connected to the motherboard, then the beep can't be coming from the motherboard. That's for sure.

If I had to make an educated guess, I would say it's either your PSU or hard drive. Since you might not have an extra PSU to test, try disconnecting your hard drive first and see if the beep still appears.

Ventriloquist keyboard (lol). It might be the Toshiba hard drive actuator arm randomly getting stuck. If so, backup your data.

Those sounds in the video are completely different. The sound i'm hearing from inside the case is more of a linear soft toned long beep. My third hard drive (Toshiba) has no data on it yet. I only recently assembled the rig and was about to transfer tons of archived data on it - glad I didnt!
