Z270 Formula IX XMP won't work

Hello I'm really frustrated right now because my new motherboard doesn't take the XMP, I don't know if it is the processor at this point.
Problem story step by step:

1) I have bought a 7700k in January and paired it with a Z170 Maximus Hero with Corsair LPX 3200mhz Ram, I wasn't able to enable XMP, no matter what I did, changed VCCIO and SA to 1.25v and 1.5v Dram voltage with no luck, tried all kind of speeds, the max I could get was 2400mhz.

2) Thinking the Ram was the culprit I bought some Gskill Ripjaws 3000mhz from the Quality Vendor section on the manual, it didn't work either no matter the SA and VCCIO nor Dram voltage either.

3) Bought a pair of Corsair Vengance Led 3200mhz, no luck either.

4) Asked a friend for his 6700k to try it out, all 3 pair of different rams worked with XMP no problem.

5) I started to think it was the motherboard not compatible with the 7700k due chipset issues so I bought yesterday the Z270 Formula IX, again I cannot use XMP profile on the ram, tried every ram, tried 1.3 SA and VCCIO and 1.51v Dram Voltage this time and no luck.

I really don't know what to do now, since January this year I cannot run my PC at the specs I wanted it to run and now I have 2 motherboards and 3 pair of different rams for nothing.

I hope someone can give me a hand, thank you and sorry for my english.

If XMP settings work fine with the 6700K I would assume it is your 7700K that is the problem, I don't know if Intel will replace the CPU under RMA for this but you could purchase their performance tuning plan and wait for 30 days and they will replace it, or you can sell your CPU on ebay and purchase a new one, CPU's sell really easy on ebay

Sounds like your 7700K's IMC is subpar.

Are you running the latest BIOS for the Maximus IX Formula? Have you tried setting up the timings manually instead of using XMP? And have you tried Maximus Tweak Mode 1?

Hello guys, thanks for your help, yep I tried setting the timings manually but nothing worked, I used the same timings as the ram were supposed to work and also loose timings plus tried mode 1 and mode 2.

I think the CPU is the culprit, I didn't believe it really that's why I have changed so many parts but a co-worker was kind enough to lend me borrow his 7700k in the noon and his 7700k booted fine in the Formula IX with my 3 pairs of rams. I ended going his house in the night with my CPU to try it in his motherboard, ASrock Gaming-ITX/ac and my 7700k doesn't work with his ram neither with any of mine, 2133mhz was all we could get from it.

In my country there is not lots of people with this kind of stuff so it took me months to find out this issue, lucky enough my co-worker builded his system 20 days ago and commented this during lunch.

Anyway, I'll try to get a new 7700k from a store and sell the one I have as broken or semi working.

Really I never tought It could be a CPU problem, I have built many rigs and I was almost sure CPU were the ones with the less failure rate in all components.

I'll update the thread once I have a new cpu in hands tested.

Thanks!!!

Well, there's a reason why Intel only guarantees 2133MHz/2400MHz. A lot of users buy fast memory without knowing that you are actually overclocking the memory beyond Intel's supported specifications. 😛

You are right Chino, I just assumed at this point in life that most processors woud work without issues and it was my fault for sure.

Anyway, I got my hands into a new 7700k and booted straight up with the XMP with all my rams.

I'm going to keep the Corsair Led ones because they do 3466mhz 16-18-18-36 with 1.35v stable in Memtest for 2 hours, don't know if I should keep testing but I'll guess I will find out soon enough if that Oc is not stable while using the computer lol.

I'm just glad I can finally enjoy my rig as it was meant to be 😛

Thanks both of you guys for the help!
