What bios you have. I am doing all current drivers and bios. i load the update first then the tool..... oddd/ You have to close all programs like logitech corsair anti virus. etc. note.... no AI suite.

I have BIOS 1009.

I tried using the METool first, but says check version of ME file. So installed the drivers which installled alright. Then tried again to use the METool using the flashdrive, close apps, and admin method, and it worked. But still 'vulnerable'.

I had the same issue (SVN 0 and "System vulnerable") after running the update tool.

With a little bit of digging I discovered there is a conflict with other process / software running on the system.
In my case it was HWiNFO64 (v5.60-3280).

Steps to reproduce:

  • with HWiNFO running, open a CMD window (run as Admin)
  • using "cd" go to the folder where you downloaded the Update tool: eg cd C:\Users\Gobbo\Desktop\MEUpdateTool_UI_20171103_TP
  • the actual firmware and firmware update tool by Intel are inside the "FW" folder...
  • ... so move into that folder with cd FW
  • test your current FW version, typing .\FWUpdLcl64.exe -FWVER
  • you will get something like this:
Intel (R) Firmware Update Utility Version: 11.8.50.3399
Copyright (C) 2007 - 2017, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Error 8193: Fail to load MEI device driver (PCI access for Windows)
Above error is often caused by one of below reasons:
Administrator privilege needed for running the tool
ME is in an error state causing MEI driver fail
    MEI driver is not installed

Error 8757: Display FW Version failed.

  • now close HWiNFO, and check FW version again, you'll have no error.

The same "error" is happening under the hood using Intel Detection Tool.
With HWiNFO running, it says System Vulnerable (and SVN 0).
Wih HWiNFO closed, it says System not Vulnerable (and SVN 3).

So in my case it was HWiNFO, but I think other process can create some conflict as well.
I suppose it's better to terminate extra-process when updating & when checking then.

EDIT:

I also have this message about iCLS Client, not sure if I really have to update (I can't find anything on Asus Website).

EDIT 2:
See HWiNFO developer's answer -->here<--

I want your help.

I downloaded the MEUpdateTool_UI_consumer_1023 from Asus site, under the support->BIOS section of ROG Strix Z270F Gaming.
I unzipped the file and run the MEUpdateTool.exe application but then I receive an error message that "Warning!!! This tool doesn't support [Strix Z270F Gaming] motherboard".

How is this even possible since I downloaded the tool from my mobo support page??
Is Asus trolling us???

My risk assessment using the Intel tool says that "the system is vulnerable".

Edit: I downloaded from asus the latest ME chipset Version 11.7.0.1040 and installed it successfully

https://www.asus.com/ae-en/support/Download/1/50/8/6/ouGRuCxPqXbYglEa/30/

I then rebooted the pc and run again the intel risk assessment tool but still "system is vulnerable" and not only that but it reports that the ME version is the old one 11.6.0.1126.
I de-activated the antivirus (nod), I re-installed the newest ME driver and re-checked but again "system vulnerable".

But if I go in the Device Manager, under Intel Management Engine Interface, the current driver version is 11.7.0.1040!!!!

So the driver installed under Win7 is the updated one (after utilizing twice the updated Asus driver) however the Intel risk assessment tool both if I use the Graphic UI or the guidelines from the friend above using Command Line they both report the older firmware as present 11.6.0.1126.

What the hell is going on?

Weird.
Try to close all unnecessary programs (AI Suite, Steam, Logitech, Corsair, ecc) and run the tool again.
See also previous tips from other users about extracting the whole archive into a USB drive and running the setup with your antivirus turned off.

If the error "This tool doesn't support XYZ mobo" still comes out, you will have to contact ASUS support for help.

You are confusing things:

  • MeUpdateTool is supposed to update Management Engine itself
  • ME Chipset Version xx.yy.zz is supposed to update Management Engine Interface drivers

These are two different things, so the versions reported to you by the OS and the Detection tool are correct.
MeUpdateTool failed, while the driver form MEI was correctly updated.

Asus actually suggest to do both updates, you've done the latter and still need to do the first:

Funny thing. If I go into the support page of Asus ROG Strix 270F Gaming the picture of available downloads is different than yours (see attached).
There is only ME update tool and then the BIOSes. Nothing else. No previous and latter version.

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z270F-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/

If I go into this page

https://www.asus.com/ae-en/support/Download/1/50/8/6/ouGRuCxPqXbYglEa/30/

There are 2 version of drivers, 11.7.0.1040 which I already installed and 11.7.0.1014 which obviously is older and thus obsolete.

So version 11.7.0.1040 is already installed because if I try to install 11.7.0.1014 it asks me if I want to overwrite the newer installed version with the older one. I choose no of course.
However ME tool still refuses to launch, even with everything stopped and even from a usb flash drive. My last resort is to try do it in Safe mode hoping that nothing runs in the background.

Still the same message = Warning!!! this tool does not support STRIX Z270F Gaming motherboard.

My bad, I edited my picture to save some space in forum layout.
I actually see BIOS, AUDIO, LAN, Utilities, BIOS-Utilities and Chipset.

Sorry if I created more confusion 🙂

I think you should register your mobo and then contact ASUS support.
I've done it a couple of times and they are great.

Don't worry no problem there.
I have already asked ASUS support for help.

However since I am also stubborn I did everything once more: after re-downloading everything, (a) I put them in a usb stick, (b) I closed everything that was running in the system tray (e.g. AI Suite, HWinfo, Antivirus etc.), (c) and launched the files from the usb directly in Administrator mode => drivers and tools properly installed and now the Intel risk assessment reports system fully patched.

Thanks everyone for their comments, feedback, screenshots and support on this thread.

If anyone else is facing similar problem with me, retrace exactly steps (a) to (c) above. Close all unnecessary staff in system tray (important here is any ASUS tool and app, HWinfo or anything else that uses ME, and of course the AV), run it from a usb drive and preferably in Admin status.

You're a hero. It helped in my case too.
HWiNFO was the culprit.

Thank you!

NIce findings. One of the things that i did was close all. I mean everything that has a close that was running i close. also disable the AV . I will try to find out IF making these on safe mode could work. i have a friend that is having some issues with a z170 and try that with a clean install. Maybe if feel well on wed.
