Who is running RAM from the QVL list? Problems or no problems?

I've seen people run ram not on the QVL list without any problems, as well as many people having issues with the Z170 boards.

Can people post here and state simply what issues they're having and their ram, and if it's on the QVL list or not? Problems seem common across the boards

I'm at stock settings, no OC, Hero and Hero Alpha had issues

Issues:
-Audio pops from audio channels opening/closing with realtek/asus drivers only
-USB devices sometimes not detected on startup
-Q Code 00 once in awhile

RAM:
-G.SKILL F4-3000C15D-16GVR
-2x8GB sticks
-Reviews seem to be good though and some reviewers use it on the Hero without issues.

This ram is NOT on the QVL list.
Z790 Asus Hero Maximus on 0816 BIOS (0914 and 1202 crashes for me on XMP I), Intel 13900k stock clock, Asus 4090 Strix OC edition, FF3D532G720 Teamgroup Ram running XMP I, 16gb x 2, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB x 2, Seasonic VERTEX GX 1200W, Win 11 Pro 64, Deepcool LS720 AIO, NZXT H7 Flow. Comfortably using Armoury Crate for updates/fan xpert.

I'm running that exact kit, Vinny. But mine's on an M8G. No problems whatsoever, whether using XMP settings or manual settings or even the Samsung 2x8GB Double-Sided 3000 1.35v profilesin the BIOS (my kit has Samsung chips). And that's with no adjustments to VCCIO or System Agent voltages.

I run gskill F4-3000C15D-16GTZ and it is on the QVL. I have no issues at all and operate a modest 4.5 overclock. Vinni - the come and go USB at startup is a problem usually seen with ole Win 7. If your installation media did have the XHCI/usb3 driver embedded try toggling the XHCI Hand Off setting in the bios. It should be enabled for Win 7 IIRC.

I am running the same ram(G-Skill F4-3000C15D-16GVR) and even though it is not on ASUS's QVL. It is QVL'd by G-Skill for the the M8H.

No problems with my system.

Wow!!

Great replies everyone. Good to know and see what everyone else is doing and experiencing. It seems to have helped a few others.

Thanks for the in depth details as well.

Interesting seeing a few people running the same kit as me without issues.

I may ask further details on what some good RAM profiles are for OCing or having them more stable. I need to get my system updated first. Just got my replacement M8HA in, and I put the RMA'd CPU in.

Currently running the system on a test bench with the minimal and making sure all is well. So far, I've updated the BIOS to 1302 with BIOS Flashback, and finally did not get Q Code 00! That's a first! It updated perfectly, restarted itself as it said it would, and came back running! I will be updating to 1402 when I get home later today.

I hope putting my Samsung M.2 in won't screw things up..

I'm staying away from AI suite for now, but really want it.. I'm just afraid it'll mess my system up like the previous times, as it has for others.

Thank you SOOO much for pointing out the USB problem/solution. I just turned that setting to ENABLED but have only done a couple restarts since then, so I will see later on after 30+ restarts to confirm if that fixed it. At one point, my system got onto the windows loading screen and everything froze and it had that loud "buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" noise out of the speakers. I never had that on the revious 6 mobo's i went through, so hopefully nothing is wrong.

I will report back soon. So far everything is running good. I believe the audio issue will still be there. hopefully someone will know of a fix soon

Good. Yeah, I had it before and when I installed it after BIOS update, it gave issues. Then when I did a new replacement board, I put the M.2 in before turning anything on and it was fine.

That's why i just hope installing the M.2 in at this point won't mess things up.

I still have audio issues with the Asus drivers from their site.. sigh. I'm on BIOS 1402

I do not have that installed. I literally have the bare bones of Windows OS as well as the hardware. I only have my SSD plugged in. That's it.

I have a Asus VIII Ranger and im running G.Skill Model F4-3200C16Q-16GRK which IS on Asus's QVL but NOT on G.Skills QVL. I specifically got this memory because Asus's QVL shows that 4 sticks work. I only realized that G.Skill had a QVL after I bought the memory and I already took the heatspreaders off so I could put on EKWB waterblock. The memory does work after hitting a combination of MemOK and/or the reset switch and/or pulling the battery and or pulling the mem sticks and re-seating(which really sucks with the waterblock). I have gone through 2 motherboards and Ive run into alot of problems with it. First off you can forget about the XMP profile. It will not work and error 55 or 99. I have tried multiple bios updates with same result. I am so scared of trying to tweak it up to the 3200 because of these issues that ive kind of given up and am running at 2133 :(. Maybe the 1402 update will help.

Im running exact that memory (G.Skill F4-3200C16Q-16GRK) with my Maximus VIII Gene and everything is working fine.
Running bios 1302 and got the XMP settings selected. I could even OC the sticks to 3466MHz by just change the speed.
Same Volt and same timings. At least stable for bench. Havent tried any stresstests for that speed.
The memory is as said designed for X99 but I find them in QVL for my motherboard just as you do.

Asus' QVL love for 4 stick configs almost seems as if they mostly tested X99 quad channel kits...

You can put the heatspreaders back on and send it back - I would. As for tweaking, go ahead if you'll keep it; it'll work or it won't but it can take a punch.

That's Ripjaws 4 😉

Ripjaws V are definitely designed for Z170: (scroll down a bit): http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3400c16q-64gvk

I think NemesisChild was replying to Mick1985 who referenced F4-3200C16Q-16GRK which was Ripjaws 4. Ripjaws 4 not designed for Z170, Ripjaws V (fine) and TridentZ (better) are.
