What are these Intel chipset drivers for and are they needed ?

I'm asking because a small number of Win7 users have been seeing BSOD after reinstalling this months security patch from MS, And there is possibly a conflict with chipset drivers in that the bug disapears once the system is updated to use the latest chipset drivers, a search of chipset drivers for a Z170 mb directs to intels site and above page, but no mention of Intel ME are both needed ?

Already have the latest from Asus support site installed ( ME ) what i wasn't sure about was the need to also update the chipset too also can there be issues after updating the bios if you have older versions of ME firmware and chipset software installed ?

Intel chipset drivers are needed for correct functioning of drives, USB, etc., if everything is functioning OK it is not mandatory to update chipset drivers but cannot hurt either
If a bios update requires new MEI drivers ASUS states this with instructions to do so. This has been the case in the past

Some people constantly search for new drivers the same way some people search for new bios updates, if everything is functioning correctly they may not be needed but usually doesn't damage anything to update drivers, you can make a restore point before updating drivers just in case something gets buggered, anything is possible
