VIII Hero (and Ranger) broken HDMI output after BIOS 0802

Hi!

I have discovered the following issue after upgrading my BIOS from 0401 to 0802:

I have three Monitors connected to my PC - two to my MSI GTX970 and one to the Mainboards HDMI output.
With BIOS version 0401 it worked fine.
After upgrading to BIOS version 0802 the HDMI output doesn't work anymore, the monitor now only shows static. I got it to work under one condition - I have to define it as my primary monitor in the BIOS settings, then it works. If I set the primary display to PCIE (i.e. the GTX970) above issue arises.

Is this a known bug? I wasn't able to find any previous reports of this issue.

My setup:
Intel Core i7-6700K
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero (also tested this with the RANGER, same issue!)
32 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport, DDR4-2400
MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G

Do you all have onboard sound on? if so, try to disable, i think is the same issue that i have, i've open one new post about graphic/sound issues.....

That a question to me regarding the blinking display? I have sound on, I haven't tried to disable it.

Try to disable the sound on bios...

I'll try that, but I should add the the latest bios seems to have improved things significantly. I can now run XMP with BCLK at 10x.x and get 3403 DDR4 working and the display is better, but not perfect. It will occasionally still blink.

So, ASUS whatever you did, it needs a little more. 😉

Ok, give some feedback when you try that, i'm on bios version 1001.

Up for 2 days now with running lots of jobs, some heavy load and some normal load:
load average: 1.07, 1.11, 1.13 (it's been doing "something" pretty consistently the whole time).

This is at 4.2GHz CPU and 32G 3403 DDR without issue.

HOWEVER, this is all with a single GTX980, not the on-board video and in linux. So, I don't know if the blinking issue is still with me, I certainly don't see it on the 980.

The ram is running like a champ though. I haven't tried to bump CPU clock more than XMP's default yet though, waiting to figure out my issues with the other system before I risk destabilizing this one.

I also have a gtx980, i use a 2º monitor for backup in the onboard vga, when the onboard sound is disable on bios, i have image on the onboard vga, when i enable the onboard sound i don't have image on my 2ª monitor(onboard vga).

Do you get this to?

I haven't seen any interaction (good or bad) with sound enabled/disabled. I also have not tried to hook up a monitor to both the 980 and igfx ports at the same time (only one or the other).

I did notice the bios has an enable for "multi-monitor" or something to that effect in the advanced->????->graphics setup which, when you select it, says it controls whether or not it will allow you to have both the on-board and discrete adapters functioning at the same time.

So, did you enable that?
