VIII hero alpha and i7 6700k OC voltage HELP

Demard
Level 7
OC at 4.5Ghz

i can't get the voltage to run at 1.32V under LOAD, at LLC 5 it will run at 1.312V ( show in aida64 and hwmonitor) (1.312 V is unstable BSOD )

LLC 4 it will run at 1.29v

LLV6 1.344V

if i type in 1.325v Manual, Vcore voltage will jump between 1.312v and 1.328 V alternating

Tested 1.33V Manual, LLC 5 Vcore voltage under load 1.328V stable

any help?

That looks good Demard. 🙂

If ever the cpu voltage is going over what you set you can either try lowering LLC or using a negative offset to counter the overshoot.

I am having a similar issue with voltage overshooting the bios setting on adaptive voltage. I have read about 10 articles about this and am still pretty confused. I am on the Hero Alpha but i think it is the same as the Hero other than RGB and wifi/bluetooth. I lowed my LLC to 4 and it got me down to a .2 volt overshoot where the level 5 was higher. What exactly does the negative offset do? In adaptive mode. I apologize if this is a simple question this is the first build i have done in about 10 years and a lot has changed but I was tired of buying pre built systems and built my own.

Hi ZombiePlanAlpha

The negative offset in adaptive mode subracts voltage when under load.

Say you set 1.20v in the bios but running a stress test it's drawing 1.275v, you'd just set a negative offset of -0.075v and this should keep your cpu at or very close to 1.20v.

I'm honestly starting to wonder if I should just leave it in manual and turn speed step off or leave the power profile in high performance. I am trying very hard to understand how the LLC and adaptive voltage works but it seems like it's a lot of headache. I know the chip is stable at 4.5 GHz and 1.36 volts. Less voltage causes one of the processes in real bench to become unresponsive. 4.6 is not stable at a voltage I am comfortable with. The system is stable in adaptive with 1.36 and. 001 offset but often reads 1.39x volts in CPUz. Should I care that it hits a voltage that high of its stable?

No worry unless temps are to high, that's not to high on these chips at all

I rarely get temps in the 70s. This entire build was because I wanted to do a hard tube custom loop because it seemed like a fun project.

1.39v is not too much, 1.52v is the max safe voltage stated by intel so with temps in the 70's during a stress test you have room to push higher if you want.

If all else fails you can always go this route.

4.5 is respectable. Some can go higher, its all dependant if you hit the lottery or not. Best Ive done stable so far it 4.6Ghz at 1.375V and Im peaking into the 70 during stress tests. Im thinking right now the corsair h115i cooling is whats holding me back. Didnt like the rough look from day one. EK supremacy is on the way. If I can dig deep and find the intel appartus for my Dtek fusion block thats going on in a heart beat. Best water block Ive ever used. Have two of them even.

61520 never gone above 68c during stress testing \ custom loop , trip120 thermalchill rad and DEK fusion block

Hi Subsider

That looks great if that's stable your temps look good too. 1.52v is the max safe voltage so if you can keep temps under control you can try for 4.8GHz.

I like your ram at 3200MHz CL14 that looks like a Trident Z kit.

Great job !
