VIII Gene: Boot on keystroke / mouse click?

So... it's been three years since I posted about this feature on the V Gene forum... And from what I can see in my VIII Gene UEFI, this function is still unavailable!? Is this correct? I don't want to sound like a broken record, but my Gigabyte DS3L had this feature... back in 2007.

ASUS, is it possible to please add this basic function to the 350$ VIII Gene via a BIOS update? That would really be handy, and fitting for such an expensive and competent board 🙂

The BIOS has an APM Configuration menu which allows you to wake the machine through various hardware signals (which tend to be disabled by default). You probably want to enable the "Power on by PS/2 Keyboard" setting. The Maximus VIII Gene user manual explains in more detail.

ROG KeyBot can also be configured to power on the machine from the keyboard. It probably won't allow a mouse-click to send a wake signal, but you might be able to get it to work with a USB mouse plugged into a keyboard-mounted USB port.

Otherwise, you'll just have to tell Windows to "Sleep" instead of "Shutdown" whenever you want to power down.
