Thermistor Cables

I don`t know if all Asus motherboards have thermistor cables, but my M8E does. Do you guys use these short thermistors? I did`nt install them in mine, so I was wondering if they should be in there. If you do use them, where does the temperature monitoring end of the cable attach on the devices you want to monitor?
There are three thermistor sensor connectors on my M/B.

The thermistor cables are optional and you don't have to use them, they can measure surface temps of any device and you just tape them on.

Could I use a sensor (Short Thermistor Cable) as a trigger to kick in a side fan pointing at the GPU ? If so where would be the best place to position it ?

No, the thermistor cables are for monitoring surface temps only, it's not like a pwm cable that can control fans with temperature.

If your side fan is connected to a chassis fan header you can control it in PWM mode or with voltage in DC mode depending on your fan and which header it's connected to.
