Strange "LL" Q-Code and boot issue.

Hey guys and gals, new member but with a problem. I have been rocking the Maximus VIII Hero since Feb 2016, and haven't had a single issue from it. Today I conducted a thorough cleaning like I have with all my rigs...after owning a rig for a year I take it completely apart and give it a full cleaning, the reassemble. I don't change anything out, but just clean it up and 'beautify" it.

Well after getting everything hooked back up and ready to turn on, this happens:

I press the power button - All case fans, to include Kraken X61 AIO, all power on and appear to function properly.
I notice none of the fans back down on RPM as they normally do.
Motherboard lights come on like intended. I get a solid red CPU light like I should, but it doesn't run through the others (DRAM, VGA, Boot Device, etc).
I then notice a Q-Code of "LL" which will not change nor go away until power is off. I have googled the hell out of this code and cannot find anything or anyone mention it. By this point I notice my keyboard, mouse, or anything USB connected isn't receiving power.
The system wont display anything through HDMI or DP with onboard or dedicated GPU, using multiple cables for both.
I have taken out and tried different configurations with different components to see what is the issue but nothing I do gets past whatever its doing. I have tried without a GPU in the system at all. Same with RAM, HDD, cooler, hell I even took the CPU out and attempted a boot up but it didn't even power on when I did that.

I am at a complete loss of whats wrong with my system. Did my motherboard just crap out on me? Possible PSU problem? I don't have another system or spare hardware to test/swap parts so that part of troubleshooting cant be done, sadly. Any and all help with this matter would be GREATLY appreciated! 🙂

Hi WILLIA4MS

Welcome to the ROG forum.

I just looked in your manual and there is no code LL, this could be pointing to faulty led's and possibly a faulty motherboard.

Please list your complete system specifications.

The first 2 things to try is clearing the cmos and updating the bios, also double check all your power connections are correct and secured.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for not mentioning it but I have tried clearing cmos, by both the reset switch/button and also pulling the battery already. Also I completely went through the system multiple times to check for any loose cabling, all is secured. I haven't tried updating BIOS though so I will give that a shot once I send this reply.

My specs are as follows:

Motherboard Maximus VIII Hero
Processor i7 6700k
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V PC4-21300 (8GBx2)
Graphics Card #1 MSI 980 GTX Gaming 4G
Graphics Card #2 MSI 980 GTX Gaming 4G
Sound Card OnBoard
Monitor ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch
Storage #1 Samsung 850 EVO 1TB
CPU Cooler NZXT Kraken X61 AIO
Case NZXT H442 Mid-Tower
Power Supply EVGA Supernova G2 850W
OS Windows 10 Home

Well sadly updating the BIOS didn't work. Still the same LL Q-Code and situation.

That is a strange code indeed and with code LL NOT being listed in the manual I have no idea what it's referring to.

The only thing I can suggest is disassemble it and set the motherboard up on the box it came in and try with minimal components, psu, mobo, cpu, cpu cooler and 1 stick of ram. Let all drives disconnected and try with the onboard gpu.

If you still get the same code you're one step closer to an RMA.

That I will have to do tomorrow then, but I do have a question with RMA. If I have to end up RMA'ing what all do I need to send other than the motherboard itself?

Oh, well I purchased it online through Amazon...Out of all my builds, I have never had to RMA anything luckily enough.

Hopefully when you get it out of the case it will fire up or you may spot something.
