[Solved]Maximus Ranger and USB 3.1 gen 2; it won't detect any drives...

but it will charge my phone, though.

Weitd isn't it?
I've been going through the BIOS and every USB port is activated. I've tried to deactivate/activate AI charger to no avail.
I've tried various Asmedia drivers because as far I can see, it's the ASM1142 chip that delivers the 3.1 gen 2 ports.

My other USB ports detects my USB drives just fine, just not the 3.1 gen 2. Am I missing something?
I just got this board last week and I immediately upgraded to the 3007 BIOS.

Thanks in advance.

hi HeavyK
have You tried using different cables or devices , do devices/cables can detect?
or try to flash previous BIOS

Hi Fury,

thx for your reply. Yes, as my title states I've tried numerous drives; 4 different USB drives of different brands both USB 2 and 3, an USB harddrive and my wifes phone aswell.

I went into BIOS last evening and made sure that the Asmedia chip was Enabled. I tried to see if disabling/enabling Charging would make a difference, none.
I tried 3 different drivers aswell and none of them helped.

The ASMedia USB3.1 eXtensible Host Controller and root hub is installed according to Device Manager. There *is* something going on with the port since my phone is charging from it, but Windows won't detect any drives!

I feel I've tried everything in my power atm.

I haven't tried to flash previous BIOS and I would rather wait with that until I've tried everything I can with the help of you guys.
I'm beginning to think that the port is just borked eventhough power runs through it.

I fixed it. Sort of.

I used my right of withdrawal and got the Asus Z270 Prime-A instead. I was a bit nervous since it's a new chipset and perhaps a premature BIOS, but everything is working perfect sofar.
AND a working USB 3.1 Gen 2 port.
