after i got my Maximus Hero 8 Board i had 2-3 stressful weeks because Windows wouldnt shutdown fully and properly the shutdown page with the shutdown message stays until i get a bsod after about 10mins the board is still alive fans rotate lights are up the graphic card is still alive!

so i searched and did much things to solve this problem changed settings in the bios changed ram banks and position plugged in and out usb devices deinstalled programs and many things to find a solution but 99% of the advices also found in here didnt help near to giving up making some last trys i found the solution so here it is.

Some of the Autostart services from Intel probably installed with the drivers from the Asus Mainboard Site cause the problem so we need to deactivate them.

Press the Windows button now in the search bar type msconfig on the window popping up go to servicesand search for the Intel services now deactivate them by unclick the checkmark that is it now your Board should shutdown fully and properly!

Jumping in on this thread, I hope you do not mind. I have the same problem with the Maximus VIII Hero motherboard not powering down on shutdown, fans running, leds on. The graphic card is shut down with black screen on the monitor. Windows appears to have shutdown and is totally unresponsive. My only way out is to hold my finger on the power switch. I am running a new installation of Windows 10 64bit with the 1202 BIOS. It has happened three times over the three weeks after a long gaming session. On startup today I have got the following error message from AISuite3 so i suspect this is the software casing the problem in my case. I am now going to uninstall it and wait to see if the problem happens again.

You precisely describe the bug with shutdown as I was experiencing it. After I uninstalled all of AI Suite3 and ran CCleaner I have had no shutdown issues.

About that cleaner, i could not run it. It could not Access some process or file even after i uninstalled the suite last time. Should it be used on safe mode?

Janne-71 Try running it as administrator. When I ran it the first tme my AV Kaspersky blocked it .

In my case uninstalling AI Suite and after succesful cleaning it did not solve the shutdown issue after gaming... It must have to to with the software I posted above or the Intel ME driver, at least in my specific case...

Hi

No I still could not resovle it. I tried so many things (uninstalled everything from intel and Asus with cleaning and many other software too, different Intel ME drivers, different UEFI power settings) but it's always the same: When i play a game more than 1 hour power does not switch off after shutdown. Every single time i don't play games or play games for just like 30min. it shuts down fine.

I'm starting to believe that it could have to do with the power supply, not switching off after higher temperatures or heavy load...

Have you tried to update to newest bios? I uninstalled ai suite 3 when i updated to bios 1302 and one of those things (or both) fixed the issue for me. Also did you turn off hibernation in Windows? It could cause it too.
