after i got my Maximus Hero 8 Board i had 2-3 stressful weeks because Windows wouldnt shutdown fully and properly the shutdown page with the shutdown message stays until i get a bsod after about 10mins the board is still alive fans rotate lights are up the graphic card is still alive!

so i searched and did much things to solve this problem changed settings in the bios changed ram banks and position plugged in and out usb devices deinstalled programs and many things to find a solution but 99% of the advices also found in here didnt help near to giving up making some last trys i found the solution so here it is.

Some of the Autostart services from Intel probably installed with the drivers from the Asus Mainboard Site cause the problem so we need to deactivate them.

Press the Windows button now in the search bar type msconfig on the window popping up go to servicesand search for the Intel services now deactivate them by unclick the checkmark that is it now your Board should shutdown fully and properly!

I'm not really clued up to the bios/program side of things, I can build them better than I could program them! I hope you get your problem sorted, sorry I couldn't be more help.

I don't know how, but unplugging network cable and switching to wireless seems to be working for my VIII Hero Alpha!

I think I might have the solution.

For users who have corsair link enabled on the PC, uninstall it and hope it works!*

Was having this issue with my Gene VIII, black screen, dead input devices, spinning CPU fan and power light on. I uninstalled Ai Suite and now computer shuts down and sleeps as normal now. I should mention that this seemed to have begun after I opened Ai Suite to make my fans quieter...Ai Suite had been installed for 6 months, but this was the first time I ever changed any settings in it.

I do miss having less fan noise...guess I will see if I can adjust this in the BIOS itself. 🙂

This is a issue that's been around since Windows 8. You need to click on Restart and then at the login screen click on the power icon at the lower right and click on shutdown.

i dont use windows 8 but that sounds more like a operation issue which the user can avoid

usually every user should know and the most will know it how to properly shutdown the pc but thats not the problem because even if you know it the pc still will not shutdown because of this Software/Driver conflicts.

Back on topic. I don't seem to have any of those services.

Yep to me this shutdown problem happens sometimes, maybe 1/6 shutdowns. Im trying this method now, removed the intel services. Using latest aisuite 3.

I have this problem too but it happends 1/3 of shutdowns in windows 8 and in windows 10 all the time

I tried to investigate myself, I don't think is from the AI Suite because the problem occur on fresh install with no AI suite installed and with no drivers installed from the asus site/cd.

I also belive is a bad driver for one Asus/Intel drivers on this motherboard are garbage especially on windows 10 but couldn't pin point the one and i will try your solution and see.

I also don't have Intel (R) Technology Access Soft and Intel (R) Technology Access Serv in services list

In my oppinion Asus engineers should investigate this matter since it seems to occur with many users, atleast Basic functions like shutdown and restart should work with premium motherboards like rog maximus.
