Recommended MEI version

On the Asus Support site they list Intel Management Engine version 11.6.0.1032, but that is pretty out of date. I've been running 11.6.0.1039 straight from Intel, but is this not a recommended setup?

Should I use the version provided by Asus?

Latest is Intel ME 11.6 Consumer PCH-H Firmware v11.6.29.3287
For 100/200-series SKL/KBL-S and SKL/KBL-H systems which come with ME firmware v11.6

11.7 series driver and firmware works fine with Hero VIII. I have not noticed any difference to 11.6 series, though (/w Skylake).

Most MEI updates aren't going to improve performance noticeably so it doesn't really matter. If it works then I'd say you're OK to use it or not if you choose. Any new versions have to go through extensive compatibility testing before ASUS will post them officially as a download. So often it takes a while or versions get skipped, and for aging products ASUS will post a final stable release and not certify future updates. So it's possible that the Intel version is just fine but ASUS has not tested it.

That said, I've had issues on an older machine with newer MEI versions degrading WiFi and causing blue screens. So if you start seeing strange issues I would roll back to the last ASUS certified version.

Well one the fixes is major security flaw on the old ME engines which let attackers take full control of your system even if it was powered off.. which has been fixed by flashing the new ME FIRMWARE

That's only for corporate machines. Doesn't apply to ROG hardware.

Isn't the firmware ME version controlled "safely" via BIOS updates?

I thought the software version was independent.
