Question regarding m8 hero...

Kensai

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting the m8 hero, but a little concern with some of the issues I've read here especially to do with the sound/popping problem. Is it fair to say that this problem is not 100% due to the mb and its supreme fx chip, but a known problem of the z170?

I understand that not everyone is experiencing this problem, so to me it goes down to the combination of hardware/software installed.

Maybe start a thread with people system specs & settings that works?

I do like the specs of the m8 hero, but not willing to spend the cash when I've read so much issues ppl are facing...

Hope you guys can shed some light on question above.

Cheers

I've had mine hero for a little over a month with zero issues. Granted I do normally use a headset connected via USB but when I do use my speakers I've never noticed any popping. AI tweaked is pretty cool if only for the fan manager. Only thing is the board seems to think one of my fans is a water pump despite being plugged into the optional cpu fan header. It still spins I'm not worried.

Hi Kensai

Welcome to the ROG forum !

I'm using the maximus viii formula (z170) and the supreme fx 2015 with sonic studio II and it sounds great, no popping sounds here.

I have the plantronics gamecom 380 headset connected to the motherboard audio outputs with two 3.5mm jacks.

No popping here either with hero and 6600k (using onboard sound).

I have the M8H Alpha and no issues for me except for when using the ROG Front Base but that is a separate issue as the interference is not present when I use the rear IO ports.

I have the Maximus viii Hero Alpha and previously the M8H w/6700K and bose speakers. I have and had no audio issues at all. Looking at Amazon, the M8H has about 80% 4 or 5 stars. In looking through the 1 stars which are at 14%, most of that looks like stability complaints. Stability can be many factors and being a realist I think a lot of that has to do with memory selected and expectations for overclocks. I haven't had any stability issues. That said, some do have audio issues and those people seem to continue to have audio issues even if they swap boards. It seems based on reports here and the minority of reports at reseller sites that hte audio issues exist situationally but at a pretty low rate.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I'll be looking at running the i7 6700k with 16gb G.skill Ripjaws (F4-3200C16D-16GVK), a Strix 980GTX and my old reliable HX1000w Corsair psu. OS drive will be the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB and a WG Black 1TB for storage. So its quite similar to NemesisChild's specs and its good to know that there isn't any issue.

One more thing, with the sound drivers would you guys recommend running the generic windows drivers or the Realtek ones?

I'll still be using Windows 7 ultimate 64.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64bit and have the ASUS supplied audio driver installed from their website. If suggest trying this first and if you don't like it or have problems then you could uninstall and use the generic Windows driver.
