Hi James,

Yeah, I have been trying with EZ flash 3 in the bios. Is there another way?

Last I knew this bios hadn't appeared for much in the VIII line yet other than the VIII Hero and VIII Ranger... which board are you trying to update?

Hero Alpha.

Am I just having the dumb?

Thank you everyone for letting me know that this bios is also a bust. Saving me the time a hassle to try it out. I can't for the hell of it understand how the devs cannot see the "unknown device" everybody got it from 1902 onward...I'll just have to stay with 1701. It has much longer boot time but with fewer bugs...

I got the Ranger motherboard and I'm experiencing the error 41 as well with the last 2 bios 1902 and 2001
I have the G.skill RipJaws 2800

Sadly, this BIOS did not fix my specific problem with XMP that was introduced to my system with BIOS 1902. 😞

What memory do you have?

Easy fix for this. Simply enter the frequency, base timings, and DRAM voltage manually in the bios.

I tried this but still had the error 41

The exact same kit you have.

Since BIOS 1902, I've heard of 2400, 2600, and 2800 Ripjaw V seem to be prone to having the issue.
Higher clocked Tridents (and Ripjaw variants?) appear to work just fine.

Even tried default (just optimized) for a bit on 2001, and had weird crashing behavior with games which was new.
As standard, rolling back to 1701 - everything is rock solid again, no issues including XMP timing.

Guess faster boot up isn't in my future right now. 😛

Usually there's no reason to update BIOS if things are working fine, and to an extent, I'd agree. But boot times on 1701 (and previous) are kind of trash, and it's hard to guage other improvements when description is always "Improve system stability".
In dreams, I walk with you.

How many sticks do you have ? 2x8 ? If you are experiencing problems, try to use the other set of 2 slots closer to the CPU socket. I am using these: http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c16d-16gvkb
But i am using 4x8GB (32GB) on my HERO 8, and I have managed to get them stable on boot up (3200mhz) with bios 1701 - it was a nightmare before this bios (my mobo would give me error on cold boot up all the time). I am kind of reserved to upgrade the bios to anything newer because I'm certain that it will break things for me. I think Asus is having issues with most G.SKill Ripjaws V series. I have noticed that the Trident Z series run a bit better on these mobos. Anyways, i hope i helped you in a way.

I just tried the new bios 2202 that's out now and it's the first time I've been able to boot properly after an update since 1701

I too have the G.Skill memory sticks running at 2800 and so far after the first boot working well, I will have to do more testing but hopefully things are working well

I can confirm that the bios is working very well, in fact I boot into windows so much quicker now. No more booting or shutdown issues 🙂

With 2001 I was very critical of ASUS and the fact memory wasn't working with their latest bios. I am now happily surprised and thankful that they have come through.

It's not shown by default, you need to go to "View" in the top menu and select "Show hidden devices". Another indication that it is still there is the in "Devices and Printers" where the computer icon will have a small "warning" icon on it.
