Motherboard causing incorrect temperature readings?

So I just built a new build with a Maximus VIII Hero and a 6700K. Ever since, my temperature readings have been abnormal. I'm getting 10-14c across all 4 cores using an H110i GTX. But that is impossible since my ambient is @ 20c. Sometimes it would skyrocket to 48 then back down to 10. O.o I was wondering if the CPU sensors themselves are faulty, or if the Maximus VIII Hero temperature register might be bad.

Anyone else have this issue? Any fixes from Asus? I'm sorta stumped here. I also have the VII Hero and 4790K without issue. My BIOS is the latest and all drivers updated. I've tried numerous software (CPUz, HWMonitor, latest Aida 64 Feb 6th beta, etc.) and all read the same, abnormally cold temps.

I'm stumped and don't know if I should return the mobo, the CPU, or both.

Hello

Reported idle temps below ambient is not uncommon with Skylake. It is due to the calibration of the DTS sensors by Intel. There is no fix for this at the motherboard level.

Thank you Praz. I just found it odd that Haswell "seemed" to be correct but Skylake is running below ambient. But as you say, its the way Intel calibrated their DTS sensors.

So just to make sure, you think the CPU/Mobo are good then?

Performance is great! I was just taken aback by the odd temp readings.

Thanks again. 🙂

Hello

Both should be fine if the only concern is the reported idle temps.
