Maximus VIII Hero Help

So I'm running a Maximus VIII Hero with a 6700K, 32GB of DDR4-2400, 2x EVGA GTX 980 Ti FTW, a Soundblaster Z series card, and the ASUS USB 3.1 Type-A Card. My problem is the USB 3.1 card won't work. I have it plugged into the last PCIe slot on the motherboard so my question is am I just out of PCIe lanes between the CPU and Chipset or is that card just completely incompatible with the board?

On the Hero if you use the bottom pcie slot it will disable 2 of the 3 pcie x1 slots, the top pciex1 slot is still functional, the one above the pciex16 slot for your GPU

So should I move it to the 1x slot between my graphics cards?

Never mind it needs at least a 4x slot so that wouldn't work.

It should go in the very bottom x16 slot which is an X8 slot unless you have an M.2 SSD installed it will operate at x4 which is enough, if your system does not recognize the card in the bottom slot then that is an issue

I also am moving from an older build with an SB card (A Fatal1ty PCI card) and was curious why you are running it in the Hero vs. the onboard audio. I see they finally did come out with Windows 10 drivers for our cards, but I kind of thought based on their age it might be better to run with the onboard audio. Just curious about your thoughts. I am waiting for the Samsung 950 drive to put mine together....

Just curious if anyone that is into sound say for audio editing has any general thoughts on how the new audio tech in the Maximus VIII Hero might compare to an older SoundBlaster Fatal1ty PCI card. Has the enhanced ROG onboard audio caught up? Is it close?
