Maximus VIII Hero - Has downscaled my RAM speed

I made a mistake. Its the first time in 10 years I've built a new machine. I forgot to check the web for Hero approved memory list.

I bought Corsair Dominator platinum 4 x 4 GB CMD16GXM4M4B3400C16 WITH A SPEED RATING OF 3400Mhz AT 1.2v.

I thought it would work fine but although it works, I have noticed it has been down graded to 2133Mhz . I have pressed the MEM OK button for the Mobo to fine tune the memory and it doesn't shift from 2133Mhz. Also I cannot force the speed in the BIOS as it is not listed.

I am new to Gaming Mobo's and don't have a clue of how to approach the problem. I would appreciate any help I can get

Thanks

Try setting AI Overclock Tuner to XMP to load the XMP profile of your ram. This will set the correct timings, speed and voltage.
I am not sure why you wouldn't be able to set it manually though...

Ps.: Press NO for the following question after you set it to XMP.

Sorry " what following question"

If i remember right, there will be a popup asking you if you want to auto optimize/overclock the ram after selecting the XMP profile. Press NO on that popup to make sure that first of all everything works fine with the default frequency and timings of your ram.

Also take into consideration that DDR4 3400 isn't plug-n-play. You might need to tune your system manually to get them stable.

Thank you Voltage & Chino

I attempted the change suggested but unfortunately VERY NOT STABLE . Mobo reset itself a number of times, I assume to make the changes (flashing screen every 1-2 seconds. Eventually windows booted but with flashing screens. Re-booted and after some effort managed to change back to auto. OK not good but stable.

Is there a tuning for dummies that you could point me to? Or is it better to take the hit and leave it at 2133Mhz

Thanks Again

That sounds very strange. Are you using the built in graphics card of your cpu, meaning have you plugged your hdmi cable to your motherboard ?
If so, then try connecting the hdmi cable to your graphics card.
I also had problems with the ram stability when i used the built in GPU of my CPU while testing, my system simply hang up while booting all the time. It was all sloved as soon as i plugged out the hdmi cable out of my motherboard.

Also try setting the xmp profile and then manually reducing the ram frequency to 2500, then just go slowly up and see when the problems occur.

I could not find that ref. but if you have these rams:
http://www.corsair.com/en/dominator-platinum-series-16gb-4-x-4gb-ddr4-dram-3400mhz-c16-memory-kit-cm...

They are 1.35V at 3.4GHz.

Density: 16GB (4x4GB)
Speed: 3400MHz
Tested Latency: 16-18-18-40
Voltage: 1.35V

This probably won't help you but it might be a good idea to check this list before buying any RAM for the Hero VIII;

At least these meories listed here should work without any problems.

It's always best to use memory kits that were designed for the platform that you are planning to use. X99 memory kits can be problematic on the Z170 platform without proper tuning.

Here are some tips from Raja that might help you.

SA and IO voltage range up to 1.30V. Try maximus Tweak mode 1 first.
