Maximus VIII Formula

Hello my good fellow ROG'ers

I just upgraded to the maximus viii formula and I love it, the 6700k and 16GB kingston hyperx predator ram (CL12 2400MHz). Everything is installed and running without a hitch. I did have a heck of a time activating windows 7 and then had a heck of a time upgrading to windows 10 but after about 7 hours it's finally done (sheeesh). The only thing I've done so far is overclock the ram and seems to be quite a nice kit as I'm able to overclock it to 3100MHz with 1.35v and timings 15-15-15-30-2T. I'm not an expert in overclocking ram but this looks pretty respectable to me what do you guys think?

I haven't overclocked the cpu yet and that will be next, I'm worried Intel may have sent me a not so good overclocker. I set the windows power plan to high performance and at 4200MHz the cpu is drawing 1.44v, on the bright side temps are great.

For those of you who have experience with the 6700k, I know on auto voltage it will get overvolted some but I was just wondering before I begin overclocking it, is it normal for the voltage to be that high on auto or did I possibly get a below average cpu. I haven't touched the BCLK but it looks to be running a little over 100.0

Thank you to all who answers.

No go.

No matter what I do my 6700k cry's for more voltage, I'm going to put it on hold right here for now with these settings. But I'm happy to hit 4.8GHz and I'm comfortable with that voltage. I haven't installed hwmonitor yet but it looks like I might have to, real temp went wonky after raising the BCLK to 125.0

The next thing I'll try is getting the ram to 3200MHz.

hey thanks toronto699

I can't get the cpu any higher without more voltage and the ram won't run at 3200MHz with these timings so I'm going to leave it for now.

I'm not sure of the price of the GT51 but you could always build your own, it's not difficult and you can choose your own parts. You could get an all in one liquid cpu cooler, they're fairly cheap and easy to install. The first thing to look at is a case and get one that can support at least one 240mm/280mm radiator. There are a lot of cases to choose from but if you want the best of the best they are here at Caselabs.

A couple have horizontal motherboard mounting.

Oh wow you can build a nice one with two 980ti's for say around 2,500.00. If you go custom cooling that will add at least another 1,000 - 1,500.

Custom cooling isn't needed though, you can liquid cool the cpu with an all in one cooler and the 980ti's don't have to be liquid cooled. But yeah something to think about if you're planning on upgrading.

Here's a video of the maximus viii formula's RGB lighting, there are 6 effects to play with.

Static, breathing, strobing, color cycle, music effect, and cpu temperature.

It says my camera can do video in 720p but this does not look 720p to me, I have it on color cycle.

LOL yeah I did read the manual but it doesn't say how to change the resolution. There's only 2 buttons on it menu and mode and I can't find it in either. I bet you'd know how to set it 🙂

It says it can record in 720p or something like 360p and it looks like it's set to 360p.
