Maximus VIII Formula

Hello my good fellow ROG'ers

I just upgraded to the maximus viii formula and I love it, the 6700k and 16GB kingston hyperx predator ram (CL12 2400MHz). Everything is installed and running without a hitch. I did have a heck of a time activating windows 7 and then had a heck of a time upgrading to windows 10 but after about 7 hours it's finally done (sheeesh). The only thing I've done so far is overclock the ram and seems to be quite a nice kit as I'm able to overclock it to 3100MHz with 1.35v and timings 15-15-15-30-2T. I'm not an expert in overclocking ram but this looks pretty respectable to me what do you guys think?

I haven't overclocked the cpu yet and that will be next, I'm worried Intel may have sent me a not so good overclocker. I set the windows power plan to high performance and at 4200MHz the cpu is drawing 1.44v, on the bright side temps are great.

For those of you who have experience with the 6700k, I know on auto voltage it will get overvolted some but I was just wondering before I begin overclocking it, is it normal for the voltage to be that high on auto or did I possibly get a below average cpu. I haven't touched the BCLK but it looks to be running a little over 100.0

Thank you to all who answers.

Static - Choose your color and keep the lights on contantly.
Music effect - Flashes to the beat of music.
CPU Temperature - Green cpu is cool (20c - 40c)- Yellow cpu is warm (40c - 60c) - Red cpu is warmer (60c+)

I haven't tried the music effect yet, I'll post that one next. (tomorrow)

Hi guys,

I've installed the MoBo this weekend and I have some doubts:

Leds reseting to pulsing red - Happens to me if I completely disconnect power from the board meaning power switch on the power supply off or something.. As long as the board has power even if the machine is powered off everything stays as configured. Do you guys have this same behavior? because if so it definitely has to be a bug...

I dit noticed this too: the ROG logo shows, goes away shows again and then goes to Windows is this normal? I've never experience something like this with previuos motherboards.

SSD Speed: do you guys consider the behaviour of your SSDs correct? I made a fresh install of Windows 10 on a new 256 GB Samsung 850 Evo and I'm getting Read/Write speeds of less than 400 MB/s, where both should be above 500...

After the expectations I had with this board I feel a bit disappointed after the first couple of days.

Hello seanbarkley

I let my power switch on after shutting my pc down so I haven't experienced the resetting of the led lights.

For your ssd make sure you have it connected to an intel sata port, your manual shows the motherboard layout. I believe you want to set the windows power plan to high performance for the magician software.

After you check your ssd see how it's booting. You can disable the ROG logo on the boot tab, default is 3 seconds.

Thanks for ur answers Nate!

Dealing with SSD speed I had connected it to the Asmedia Sata by mistake, so I've already fixed that.

What I find annoying is the Asus Aura Software, how can they leave it that way? I mean, I remember I configured the led color of my Corsair H100i pump the first time I used and it has kept that way from then on, even deleting the software...but this...

I mean, if the purpose of these leds is match the mobo with the rest of components, it's a nonsense. My case has an acrylic side panel, and me and my wife usually study there, so all those leds turned on all the time is not the best when you are studying, but I guess it's the only way to keep the led colors set up. BTW, don't you consider that having all those leds turned on 24/7 can reduce the lifetime of the leds or even of the motherboard?

Hopefully they realease a fix for this soon.

You're welcome

I don't see how the led's will hurt the motherboard, they don't get hot. Led's do burn out over time but they have a long life.

Everything seems to be working fine for me, you can turn the led's off while you're studying. LED lights have a life expectancy of 50,000 hours, if you use your computer for 10 hours a day that's 13.7 years with the led's on constantly and surely by then it's time for an upgrade.

So now for the music effect test. I wasn't 100% sure if it picked up the sound from anywhere or if the music has to be played on your pc but after testing the music has to be played on your pc to get the effect. You cannot set the color with this effect. I don't have an led strip connected to the RGB header but if I did the effect on all the settings would be more pronounced, I 'll see about getting an led strip sometime soon.

It's pulsing to another one bites the dust by queen, you can't hear it because I'm playing it through my headset.

Yep pulsing in private, it says private video when you try to play it.
